                <div style="text-align: justify">-The Times of India</div><div style="text-align: justify">&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify">A Nagpurian who had appeared in a state government engineering exam conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission(MPSC) has been able to secure a photocopy of answer sheets of his theory papers under the RTI.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">This is a landmark judgment and henceforth other candidates too will be able to check whether they have been evaluated properly.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Nilesh Madankar had appeared for the Maharashtra Engineering Service (MES) examination early this year. Madankar, who wanted a job in the Maharashtra Jeevn Pradhikaran, the public works department or irrigation corporations, appeared for three civil engineering papers. Not satisfied with the marks obtained, he filed an RTI application with MPSC on August 9.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The section officer turned his application down on the grounds that the Central Information Commission (CIC) had refused a similar request in September 2006. Madankar then filed a second appeal with the deputy secretary (examinations) of MPSC, on September 26.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The appeal was heard in the Mumbai office on October 15. Madankar pointed out that Supreme Court had in August ordered that a candidate had the right to see the answer sheet of competitive examination. The appellate authority then allowed his appeal.
