It will consider a number of issues, including the Rangarajan panel&rsquo;s recommendations on the draft Food Security Bill.<br /><br />The high-profile policy advisory body, headed by the United Progressive Alliance chairperson , may formulate its response to the governmentappointed Rangarajan panel&rsquo;s recommendations, which were seen as diluting the NAC&rsquo;s vision of the scope of legally binding food security measures.<br /><br />NAC typically meets once a month. Two meetings are scheduled for this month as the body could not meet in December due to Sonia Gandhi&rsquo;s unavailability as the meeting clashed with the Congress plenery.<br />Friday&rsquo;s meeting will also discuss the responses from the ministry of tribal affairs and the Planning Commission on NAC&rsquo;s proposal for the amendment of the Forest Rights Act, 2006. While a response was sought from the ministry of environment and forests, it has asked for time till the end of the month to respond .<br /><br />ET recently reported that NAC member N C Saxena has criticised the functioning of the tribal affairs ministry in a paper that he has submitted to the council. Saxena also heads a government-appointed panel responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Forest Rights Act.<br /><br />Another key issue that will come up for the panel&rsquo;s consideration is the amendments to the Right to Information Act. A working group of the NAC, headed by activist Aruna Roy, had suggested changes to some proposed amendmends to the Act. The department of personnel and training was asked for its response on the NAC group&rsquo;s suggestions. DoPT&rsquo;s comments on these will also be discussed at today&rsquo;s meeting.<br /><br />NAC&rsquo;s objections to the proposed rules related to a number of issues, including a proposed word limit and the issue of the status of an appeal in the event of the appellant&rsquo;s death.
