The newspapers which carried reports as well as photographs alleged that the jail authorities had been indulging in inhuman treatment of prisoners. The reports said prisoners Chhotu, Suraj Dubey and Raj Bahadur Yadav had allegedly hatched a plot to break out of jail. Their plan was exposed, and the jailer subsequently &ldquo;beat them up like animals&rdquo;. Jail Superintendent Anjani Kumar Singh, who on August 22 visited the prison and inquired into the incident, said the beating of three inmates had been confirmed in the inquiry.<br />

However, Deputy Jailer Dhirendra Kumar Singh in his statement has said he was only &ldquo;threatening&rdquo; them.<br />
