Kumar, being wooed by the Congress after he parted ways with the BJP, has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying that the state plans to raise NREGA payments to align them with the statutory minimum wage.</p><p align="justify">&quot;Notification of lower wage rates by the Union government than the wage rates notified by the state is diluting the spirit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005,&quot; the Bihar chief minister told the prime minister in a letter dated July 18.</p><p align="justify">The NREGA wage rate notified by the Centre is 138 per day while the minimum wage for agricultural labour notified by the Bihar government under the Minimum Wages Act by the Bihar is 162 per day.</p><p align="justify">&quot;You may kindly appreciate that no state can undermine its own statute. At the same time the baseline would be revised every five years through a tripartite process involving the Centre, state and recognised trade unions.
