Tendulkar, who was admitted to Prayag Hospital in Deccan Gymkhana following cardiac arrest on June 2, breathed his last around 11 am.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar condoled the demise of Tendulkar. &amp;ldquo;His contribution in improving the country&amp;rsquo;s economy was extremely valuable. He had done commendable work in the field of poverty alleviation,&amp;rdquo; said Pawar.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Although based in New Delhi, Tendulkar had undergone bypass surgery at city-based Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre on April 26.&lt;br /&gt;

His last rites were performed at Vaikunth crematorium. He is survived by wife Sumitra and daughters Jui and Sai. Renowned cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar and deceased playwright Vijay Tendulkar were his elder brothers.&lt;br /&gt;

From September 1968 to June 1974, he was an associate professor at the planning unit of Indian Statistical Institute in New Delhi, where he taught courses on economic development, development planning and econometric applications.&lt;br /&gt;

From July 1974 to July 1976 he worked as an economist in the Development Research Centre at the World Bank. Since February 2004, he was a member of the Centre for Development Economics, the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Delhi. He also served as a member of a panel to suggest the industrial location policy for the state of Maharashtra, and authored many papers and books.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Officiating director of GIPE, Rajas Parchure said, &amp;ldquo;He was associated with GIPE for many years. He had held many refresher programmes for PhD holders, teachers and also gave his valuable advice on research projects.                 <br /><div align="justify">One of India&rsquo;s most distinguished economists, Suresh Tendulkar (70), passed away at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday morning.<br /><br />He was former chairman of the Prime Minister&rsquo;s economic advisory council and also a former part-time chief of the National Statistical Commission.<br /><br />Tendulkar, who was admitted to Prayag Hospital in Deccan Gymkhana following cardiac arrest on June 2, breathed his last around 11 am.<br /><br />Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar condoled the demise of Tendulkar. &ldquo;His contribution in improving the country&rsquo;s economy was extremely valuable. He had done commendable work in the field of poverty alleviation,&rdquo; said Pawar.<br /><br />Although based in New Delhi, Tendulkar had undergone bypass surgery at city-based Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre on April 26.<br /><br />His last rites were performed at Vaikunth crematorium. He is survived by wife Sumitra and daughters Jui and Sai. Renowned cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar and deceased playwright Vijay Tendulkar were his elder brothers.<br /><br />Born on February 15, 1939 in Kolhapur, Tendulkar did his BCom from the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. He stood first in MA from the University of Pune. He was closely associated with city-based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) since 1962.<br /><br />From September 1968 to June 1974, he was an associate professor at the planning unit of Indian Statistical Institute in New Delhi, where he taught courses on economic development, development planning and econometric applications.<br /><br />From July 1974 to July 1976 he worked as an economist in the Development Research Centre at the World Bank. Since February 2004, he was a member of the Centre for Development Economics, the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Delhi. He also served as a member of a panel to suggest the industrial location policy for the state of Maharashtra, and authored many papers and books.<br /><br />Officiating director of GIPE, Rajas Parchure said, &ldquo;He was associated with GIPE for many years. He had held many refresher programmes for PhD holders, teachers and also gave his valuable advice on research projects. He was also a member of the governing body of GIPE between 1998 and 2006.&rdquo;<br /><br />Honorary director of the Indian School of Political Economy in Pune, VS Chitre said, &ldquo;Tendulkar gave the recommendations to the government on various policies on logical grounds.&rdquo;</div>               </font>

His last rites were performed at Vaikunth crematorium. He is survived by wife Sumitra and daughters Jui and Sai. Renowned cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar and deceased playwright Vijay Tendulkar were his elder brothers.&lt;br /&gt;

Born on February 15, 1939 in Kolhapur, Tendulkar did his BCom from the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. He stood first in MA from the University of Pune. He was closely associated with city-based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) since 1962.&lt;br /&gt;

From September 1968 to June 1974, he was an associate professor at the planning unit of Indian Statistical Institute in New Delhi, where he taught courses on economic development, development planning and econometric applications.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
From July 1974 to July 1976 he worked as an economist in the Development Research Centre at the World Bank. Since February 2004, he was a member of the Centre for Development Economics, the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Delhi. He also served as a member of a panel to suggest the industrial location policy for the state of Maharashtra, and authored many papers and books.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Officiating director of GIPE, Rajas Parchure said, &amp;ldquo;He was associated with GIPE for many years. He had held many refresher programmes for PhD holders, teachers and also gave his valuable advice on research projects. He was also a member of the governing body of GIPE between 1998 and 2006.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;

Born on February 15, 1939 in Kolhapur, Tendulkar did his BCom from the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. He stood first in MA from the University of Pune. He was closely associated with city-based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) since 1962.<br />

From September 1968 to June 1974, he was an associate professor at the planning unit of Indian Statistical Institute in New Delhi, where he taught courses on economic development, development planning and econometric applications.<br />

From July 1974 to July 1976 he worked as an economist in the Development Research Centre at the World Bank. Since February 2004, he was a member of the Centre for Development Economics, the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Delhi. He also served as a member of a panel to suggest the industrial location policy for the state of Maharashtra, and authored many papers and books.<br />

Officiating director of GIPE, Rajas Parchure said, &ldquo;He was associated with GIPE for many years. He had held many refresher programmes for PhD holders, teachers and also gave his valuable advice on research projects. He was also a member of the governing body of GIPE between 1998 and 2006.&rdquo;<br />

Honorary director of the Indian School of Political Economy in Pune, VS Chitre said, &ldquo;Tendulkar gave the recommendations to the government on various policies on logical grounds.&rdquo;

He had done commendable work in the field of poverty alleviation,&rdquo; said Pawar.<br /><br />Although based in New Delhi, Tendulkar had undergone bypass surgery at city-based Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre on April 26.<br /><br />His last rites were performed at Vaikunth crematorium. He is survived by wife Sumitra and daughters Jui and Sai. Noted economist Suresh Tendulkar passes away in Pune by Ashish Jadhav

One of India’s most distinguished economists, Suresh Tendulkar (70), passed away at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday morning. He was former chairman of the Prime Minister’s economic advisory council and also a former part-time chief of the National Statistical Commission. Tendulkar, who was admitted to Prayag Hospital in Deccan Gymkhana following cardiac arrest on June 2, breathed his last around 11 am.
