Nothing short of closure of nuclear plant will do: protesters

-The Hindu   Members quite satisfied with Chief Minister's stand on the issue   Sticking to the position that nothing short of closure of the Nuclear Power Plants in Kudankulam would satisfy them, members of the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) on Monday announced a series of protests in January to highlight their demand. Talking to reporters, S.P. Udayakumar, Co-ordinator of the PMANE, said on January 14, the day of Bhogi, villagers in Kudankulam and neighbouring areas would replace tungsten bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL). Before that on January 12, PMANE will hold a rally from Idinthakarai, the venue of the protest, to Radhapuram. On January 30, the day of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, a novel protest of “wailing” to submit their complaints to the father of the nation will held. Denying the suggestion that the PMANE had been caught in the political tussle between Tamil Nadu government and the Centre, Mr. Udayakumar also said there was no reason to think that the support from Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for his movement had reduced in the last few months. “Going by her last statement that is made after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's announcement about Nuclear Plants during his visit to Russia, we are quite satisfied with her stand.
