With this, Uttarakhand has become the only state in the country to have a dedicated helpline for complaints against illegal mining.</p><p align="justify">The Uttarakhand Special Mining Vigilance Force (USMVF), which was set up by the state government in December last year, has on Friday launched a mobile number, --7535975505-- as its 24X7 helpline for tackling illegal mining in the ecologically sensitive zones along the Ganga and its tributaries in the state.</p><p align="justify">DIG Sanjay Gunjyal, who heads the special force, told TOI, &quot;Any person can call up on this number and inform us about cases of illegal mining, if any. The identity of the caller will be kept secret and we also have provisions to reward the informer suitably, if the tip-off proves to be correct.&quot;</p><p align="justify">Calling it &quot;a move which will effectively control illegal mining in the state&quot;, the state government had launched the special vigilance force on December 12 last year. -The Times of India DEHRADUN: Apparently taking a cue from the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government's recently launched helpline in Delhi for complaints against corrupt officials; the Uttarakhand government has come up with a similar helpline for dealing with illegal mining in the hill state. With this, Uttarakhand has become the only state in the country to have a dedicated helpline for complaints against illegal mining. The Uttarakhand Special Mining Vigilance Force (USMVF), which was set up by the state government in December last year, has on Friday launched a mobile number, --7535975505-- as its 24X7 helpline for tackling illegal mining in the ecologically sensitive zones along the Ganga and its tributaries in the state. DIG Sanjay Gunjyal, who heads the special force, told TOI, "Any person can call up on this number and inform us about cases of illegal mining, if any. The identity of the caller will be kept secret and we also have provisions to reward the informer suitably, if the tip-off proves to be correct." Calling it "a move which will effectively control illegal mining in the state", the state government had launched the special vigilance force on December 12 last year. According to figures accessed by TOI, the force has in less than a month since its formation (i.e., till January 10 this year), conducted a total of 24 anti-mining raids in the state. Licences of two prominent stone crushers and three pattas were cancelled and seven illegal stores seized during these operations. USMVF has so far unearthed a total of 3,70,000 sq mtrs of illegally mined items, which can fetch the state government revenue of more than Rs 16 crore. The Uttarakhand Special Mining Vigilance Force consists of four teams entrusted with the task of cracking down on people engaged in illegal mining in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar and Nainital districts. Each team comprises 12 constables, one inspector, one superintendent of police and two forest officials of sub-divisional level. According to a senior cop, illegal mining is a major problem at about 10 different places in the state. "The main places are Kotdwar, Haldwani, Vikasnagar and Haridwar," he added.
