During the meeting chaired by district minister S A Ramdas, opposition leader Siddaramaiah asked the officials: &amp;quot;How many of you have read the Act?&amp;quot; Only five among the 50 raised their hands. When he questioned whether they are sticking to it, there was stoic silence. Intervening, zilla panchayat CEO G Sathyavathi admitted that officials don&#039;t know the provisions of the Act. &amp;quot;This, when we have translated it into Kannada and told them we will test them,&amp;quot; she said expressing her displeasure. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
According to data, 1,61,312 families have been extended the benefits of the scheme providing them job cards whereas 55,273 families need jobs. The officials had stated that 11,111 works were taken up of which 4,899 are marked as completed. Except Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks, all other five taluks have recorded poor performance. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
MPs H Vishwanath and R Dhruvanarayan and legislators attended the meeting. DC P S Vastrad was present. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The CEO did some plainspeak admitting that majority of works are marked as completed at the end of the financial year in March. &amp;quot;When the works are unable to be completed in 11 months, how can they be finished in a&amp;quot; month, the minister asked. This is done to claim the bills, she said downplaying an official&#039;s assertion that the works are documented at the end of the fiscal. At one point, the officials said they are pressurized by the gram panchayat members to include works that are not part of the scheme. Besides, they push projects that are not essential, they told the elected members. Focus is on civic works like road and drainage. They don&#039;t favour works prescribed by forest, irrigation and horticulture departments. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At the end of the meeting, Ramdas asked Sathyavathi to train the officials for effective implementation of the scheme. He also promised to get a sanction for pending projects to extend the rural employment scheme. &lt;br /&gt;

The meeting was convened in the wake of complaints from the elected representatives during a Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting on June 27 when it was established that the district has failed to utilize even 50 per cent of the sanctioned funds. <br /><br />During the meeting chaired by district minister S A Ramdas, opposition leader Siddaramaiah asked the officials: &quot;How many of you have read the Act?&quot; Only five among the 50 raised their hands. When he questioned whether they are sticking to it, there was stoic silence. Intervening, zilla panchayat CEO G Sathyavathi admitted that officials don't know the provisions of the Act. &quot;This, when we have translated it into Kannada and told them we will test them,&quot; she said expressing her displeasure. <br /><br />According to data, 1,61,312 families have been extended the benefits of the scheme providing them job cards whereas 55,273 families need jobs. Only 5 officials have read rural job Act

-The Times of India   Only a handful of officials have read the Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment guarantee Act. That was admitted by the officials, who attended a review meeting on the national rural employment guarantee scheme on Monday. The meeting was convened in the wake of complaints from the elected representatives during a Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) review meeting on June 27 when it was established that the district has failed to utilize even 50 per cent of the sanctioned funds. During the meeting chaired by district minister S A Ramdas, opposition leader Siddaramaiah asked the officials: "How many of you have read the Act?" Only five among the 50 raised their hands. When he questioned whether they are sticking to it, there was stoic silence. Intervening, zilla panchayat CEO G Sathyavathi admitted that officials don't know the provisions of the Act. "This, when we have translated it into Kannada and told them we will test them," she said expressing her displeasure. According to data, 1,61,312 families have been extended the benefits of the scheme providing them job cards whereas 55,273 families need jobs. The officials had stated that 11,111 works were taken up of which 4,899 are marked as completed. Except Hunsur and Periyapatna taluks, all other five taluks have recorded poor performance. MPs H Vishwanath and R Dhruvanarayan and legislators attended the meeting. DC P S Vastrad was present. The CEO did some plainspeak admitting that majority of works are marked as completed at the end of the financial year in March. "When the works are unable to be completed in 11 months, how can they be finished in a" month, the minister asked. This is done to claim the bills, she said downplaying an official's assertion that the works are documented at the end of the fiscal. At one point, the officials said they are pressurized by the gram panchayat members to include works that are not part of the scheme. Besides, they push projects that are not essential, they told the elected members. Focus is on civic works like road and drainage. They don't favour works prescribed by forest, irrigation and horticulture departments. At the end of the meeting, Ramdas asked Sathyavathi to train the officials for effective implementation of the scheme. He also promised to get a sanction for pending projects to extend the rural employment scheme.
