Behera refused to accept compensation for his betel vine. <br /><br />The police also arrested 17 other people, including 10 from Behera's family, for opposing land acquisition for the steel plant, according to rehabilitation and resettlement officer Surjit Das. <br /><br />The authorities had served a notice to Behera about a fortnight ago, to vacate the government land on which he had grown a betel vine. <br /><br />PPSS activists have stepped up their opposition to the land acquisition process and have put in place round-the-clock guards at villages like Dhinkia and Gobindpur, considered the epicentre of the anti-Posco activity. <br /><br />As the administration was gearing to enter Gobindpur village after acquiring land in Gada Kujang panchayat, PPSS activated its protests. &quot;We will oppose the authorities if they touch Dhinkia area,&quot; said PPSS president Abhay Sahu.
