It said that the Rs. 70,000 that a homeles person can raise as a loan seems very meagre, and suggested that in view of increasing construction material prices the ministry should raise assistance.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;

                <p>Economic Times</p><p>A parliamentary panel has asked the government to increase financial assistance provided under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) to help beneficiaries in completion of houses and improve monitoring of houses being constructed under the flagship scheme.</p><p>The 30-member committee on estimates, headed by BJP MP Girish Bhalchandra Bapat, asked the ministry of rural development to revise the financial assistance provided to help beneficiaries in timely completion of houses sanctioned. The unit assistance per house is Rs. 1.2 lakh in the plains and Rs. 1.3 lakh in the hills.&nbsp;</p><p>A report tabled in Parliament on Thursday said that the committee observed that due to cost escalation of various construction materials and labour charges, the beneficiaries are finding it difficult to complete construction of houses with the funds at their disposal. It said that the Rs. 70,000 that a homeles person can raise as a loan seems very meagre, and suggested that in view of increasing construction material prices the ministry should raise assistance.&nbsp;</p><p>The government has targeted completion of 29.5 million houses between 2016-17 and 2021-22. The unit assistance per house is Rs. 1.2 lakh in the plains and Rs. 1.3 lakh in the hills.&nbsp;</p><p>A report tabled in Parliament on Thursday said that the committee observed that due to cost escalation of various construction materials and labour charges, the beneficiaries are finding it difficult to complete construction of houses with the funds at their disposal. It said that the Rs. 70,000 that a homeles person can raise as a loan seems very meagre, and suggested that in view of increasing construction material prices the ministry should raise assistance.&nbsp;</p><p>The government has targeted completion of 29.5 million houses between 2016-17 and 2021-22.
