                <br /><div align="justify">The Prime Minister's Office has intervened in the simmering dispute between the home ministry and the Planning Commission over the capture of aadhaar biometrics by ensuring that the issue will be taken up by the Cabinet Committee on UID next week. <br /><br />According to a government source, principal secretary to the prime minister Pulok Chatterjee is learnt to have told officials handling the issue that UID, a major initiative of UPA, must be followed to its logical conclusion. <br /><br />The deputy chairperson of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Friday finalised the Cabinet note on the issue. This came after the finance ministry forwarded its comments late on Thursday evening. <br /><br />The Planning Commission finalised the document hours after Chidambaram wrote to the prime minister seeking his direction to bring a note to the Cabinet on the status of UIDAI so that there is clarity on whether the biometrics of the population are to be captured by the Nandan Nilekani-headed agency or the Registrar General of India (RGI), which is preparing the National Population Register (NPR). <br /><br />According to the source, the Cabinet note lists four options, including letting the collection of biometrics for the NPR run parallel to capture of aadhaar biometrics by the UIDAI.
