                <div style="text-align: justify">-The Hindu</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) has called the recent order of the Union Health &amp; Family Welfare Ministry restricting radiologists/sonologists from visiting more than two clinics within a district to perform ultrasound tests and making it mandatory to specify their consulting hours at each clinic as &ldquo;unconstitutional, undemocratic and ill-thought&rdquo;.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">At a Press conference here on Thursday, IRIA president Harsh Mahajan said: &ldquo;This latest order will create a shortage of radiologists, ultimately hurting patient welfare and leading to higher prices for ultrasound tests, although the directive is actually meant to curb pregnancy ultrasound.&rdquo;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">&ldquo;The first to be hit will be charitable clinics and patients in critical need of ultrasound, since this move will create an artificial shortage,&rdquo; he added.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The release issued by the Association also noted that &ldquo;after a gap of 18 years the Government is now pushing through a six-month certificate training course in OB/GYN ultrasound for MBBS doctors because India faces a shortage of sonologists. The new notification will inexplicably go against its own stand by creating a sudden shortage of sonologists.&rsquo;&rsquo;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">The group is also protesting against the hike in registration rates for ultrasound centres. &ldquo;An IRIA team met the Government and discussed the various ways in which we could help in identifying the real culprits behind female foeticide.
