Rains calm fears of crop loss and food inflation -Madhvi Sally

NEW DELHI: The monsoon's topsy-turvy ride this season is poised to end on a positive note as heavy showers have soaked the driest regions of the country, which should calm fears of significant crop loss and food inflation.

The monsoon, which is so far 15% below normal, is currently focused on regions where rainfall has been about 40% below average since June. These include parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat along with northern states of Punjab and Haryana. While Maharashtra has seen showers for about a week, rainfall has also revived in northern India.
