Ramesh was on a visit to Rohtas district to review bariou development schemes undertaken in areas that have suffered because of ther Maoist violence.&lt;br /&gt;

During his meeting, he could not find any woman mukhiya or woman sarpanch with whom he could interact to get information about the development schemes implemented in the panchayats. The situation was the same in the Maoist-hit villages &amp;mdash; Tilauthu, Thumba, Banjari, Samohta, Telkap and Rohtas, considered to be Red bastions, Ramesh visited.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;ldquo;Bihar mein ajeeb bidambana hai ki yahan mukhiya nahi mukhiya pati, sarpanch nahi sarpanch pati milte hai (it is strange that in Bihar, female mukhiyas and female sarpanchs are represented by their husbands),&amp;rdquo; he sarcastically said, adding that such a situation did not prevail in other parts of the country. Ramesh said &amp;ldquo;MP&amp;rdquo; mukhiya pati (husbands of mukhiyas) and &amp;ldquo;SP&amp;rdquo; sarpanch pati (husbands of sarpanchs) rule the state.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ramesh promised that the Centre would not lag behind in providing funds to the state as far as the development of Naxalite-hit districts is concerned. &amp;ldquo;There will be no dearth of money for development schemes for Maoist-affected areas of the state. But the funds should be used properly,&amp;rdquo; he added.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ramesh said: &amp;ldquo;The Maoists are on the run in Saranda forests in Jharkhand. Even in Rohtas, the experiment has paid dividends. Now, it is to be implemented in Chhattisgarh with the same vigour,&amp;rdquo; he added. He said Rohtas has been provided Rs 55 crore under the integrated development plan for Naxalite-hit districts. Under the plan, Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for each Naxalite-hit district. The district authorities have to take up such schemes, which could be completed within a year, he clarified.&lt;br /&gt;

Ramesh said during his earlier visit to the state, chief minister Nitish Kumar had told him that a number of mukhiyas had bought SUVs and other luxury cars with funds provided to the panchayats under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Act (MNREGA). &amp;ldquo;But thank god, about 80 per cent of the mukhiyas, who were involved in siphoning of funds, were defeated in the previous panchayat polls,&amp;rdquo; Ramesh quoted Nitish as saying.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Union minister expressed concern over the non-functioning women&amp;rsquo;s self-help groups in Rohtas. &amp;ldquo;Bihar has performed well as far formation of self-help groups is concerned for the uplift of women in rural areas. Such groups have started a number of projects in the state,&amp;rdquo; he said, adding that the Rohtas district authorities should come forward to restart the functioning of self-help group in the district.&lt;br /&gt;

He stressed the need of training women so they could take benefits of the scheme. He said the ministry had decided to make cash payment to the labourers under MNREGA in Naxalite-hit areas.&lt;br /&gt;

                <div align="justify">-The Telegraph<br /><br />Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh today expressed surprise over husbands of women mukhiyas and women sarpanchs running the rural parts of the state, unlike elsewhere in the country.<br /><br />Ramesh was on a visit to Rohtas district to review bariou development schemes undertaken in areas that have suffered because of ther Maoist violence.<br /><br />During his meeting, he could not find any woman mukhiya or woman sarpanch with whom he could interact to get information about the development schemes implemented in the panchayats. The situation was the same in the Maoist-hit villages &mdash; Tilauthu, Thumba, Banjari, Samohta, Telkap and Rohtas, considered to be Red bastions, Ramesh visited.<br /><br />&ldquo;Bihar mein ajeeb bidambana hai ki yahan mukhiya nahi mukhiya pati, sarpanch nahi sarpanch pati milte hai (it is strange that in Bihar, female mukhiyas and female sarpanchs are represented by their husbands),&rdquo; he sarcastically said, adding that such a situation did not prevail in other parts of the country. Ramesh said &ldquo;MP&rdquo; mukhiya pati (husbands of mukhiyas) and &ldquo;SP&rdquo; sarpanch pati (husbands of sarpanchs) rule the state.<br /><br />Ramesh promised that the Centre would not lag behind in providing funds to the state as far as the development of Naxalite-hit districts is concerned. &ldquo;There will be no dearth of money for development schemes for Maoist-affected areas of the state. But the funds should be used properly,&rdquo; he added.<br /><br />Ramesh said: &ldquo;The Maoists are on the run in Saranda forests in Jharkhand. Even in Rohtas, the experiment has paid dividends. Now, it is to be implemented in Chhattisgarh with the same vigour,&rdquo; he added. He said Rohtas has been provided Rs 55 crore under the integrated development plan for Naxalite-hit districts. Under the plan, Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for each Naxalite-hit district. The district authorities have to take up such schemes, which could be completed within a year, he clarified.<br /><br />Ramesh said during his earlier visit to the state, chief minister Nitish Kumar had told him that a number of mukhiyas had bought SUVs and other luxury cars with funds provided to the panchayats under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Act (MNREGA). &ldquo;But thank god, about 80 per cent of the mukhiyas, who were involved in siphoning of funds, were defeated in the previous panchayat polls,&rdquo; Ramesh quoted Nitish as saying.<br /><br />The Union minister expressed concern over the non-functioning women&rsquo;s self-help groups in Rohtas. &ldquo;Bihar has performed well as far formation of self-help groups is concerned for the uplift of women in rural areas. Such groups have started a number of projects in the state,&rdquo; he said, adding that the Rohtas district authorities should come forward to restart the functioning of self-help group in the district.<br /><br />He stressed the need of training women so they could take benefits of the scheme. He said the ministry had decided to make cash payment to the labourers under MNREGA in Naxalite-hit areas.<br /><br />Rural development secretary B. Rajendra, CRPF inspector-general M.K. Ramesh said: &amp;ldquo;The Maoists are on the run in Saranda forests in Jharkhand. Even in Rohtas, the experiment has paid dividends. Now, it is to be implemented in Chhattisgarh with the same vigour,&amp;rdquo; he added. He said Rohtas has been provided Rs 55 crore under the integrated development plan for Naxalite-hit districts. Under the plan, Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for each Naxalite-hit district. The district authorities have to take up such schemes, which could be completed within a year, he clarified.&lt;br /&gt;

Ramesh said during his earlier visit to the state, chief minister Nitish Kumar had told him that a number of mukhiyas had bought SUVs and other luxury cars with funds provided to the panchayats under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employee Guarantee Act (MNREGA). &amp;ldquo;But thank god, about 80 per cent of the mukhiyas, who were involved in siphoning of funds, were defeated in the previous panchayat polls,&amp;rdquo; Ramesh quoted Nitish as saying.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Union minister expressed concern over the non-functioning women&amp;rsquo;s self-help groups in Rohtas. &amp;ldquo;Bihar has performed well as far formation of self-help groups is concerned for the uplift of women in rural areas. Such groups have started a number of projects in the state,&amp;rdquo; he said, adding that the Rohtas district authorities should come forward to restart the functioning of self-help group in the district.&lt;br /&gt;

He stressed the need of training women so they could take benefits of the scheme. He said the ministry had decided to make cash payment to the labourers under MNREGA in Naxalite-hit areas.&lt;br /&gt;

The Union minister expressed concern over the non-functioning women&amp;rsquo;s self-help groups in Rohtas. &amp;ldquo;Bihar has performed well as far formation of self-help groups is concerned for the uplift of women in rural areas. Such groups have started a number of projects in the state,&amp;rdquo; he said, adding that the Rohtas district authorities should come forward to restart the functioning of self-help group in the district.&lt;br /&gt;

He stressed the need of training women so they could take benefits of the scheme. He said the ministry had decided to make cash payment to the labourers under MNREGA in Naxalite-hit areas.&lt;br /&gt;
