&amp;ldquo;We are demanding a relaxation in the land norms for opening of new schools and upgrade of existing schools. We are requesting that the land requirement should be five rooms of 150 square feet each, which was the MCD norm in late the 1990s. That is approximately 160 square metres. After the Act was passed in 2010, unrecognised schools had been granted a three-year extension by the government to upgrade their infrastructure to meet the standards necessary for recognition.<br /><br />In its latest notice, the government has warned unrecognised schools that after March 31, as per the RTE Act, they will attract legal action which includes, a one-time fine of Rs 1 lakh and an additional Rs 10,000 for every day that they continue to function without recognition.<br /><br />As per a 2012 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) survey, there are 1593 unrecognised schools in the Capital which are catering to 1.64 lakh students.
