A group of five such EWS students from St John&amp;rsquo;s School, Sector 26, who constitute the school&amp;rsquo;s gymnastics team, have been winning the gold medal across all UT schools for three consecutive years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Saurav, Marten, Abhishek and Amit from Class VII and Mayank from class VI, apart from realising their potentials in gymnastics, also find their interest in singing, dancing and sports. Like other students in the school, they are confident about their aims in life. While one wants to become a pilot, others aim to be engineers and doctors. Interestingly, one of them wishes to be an English teacher.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Speaking to Newsline, Jacinta Kullu, Mayank&amp;rsquo;s mother, who works as a domestic help in Sector 8, narrated her son&amp;rsquo;s achievements.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
With tears in her eyes, she says, &amp;ldquo;My son&amp;rsquo;s favourite subject is English. He teaches me how to read, write and speak in English after coming back from school everyday. It is difficult for me to follow everything he tells me in English but it feels great to see his confidence.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Meanwhile, another EWS student from St John&amp;rsquo;s school, Ajit (now in Class IX), was chosen as the &amp;lsquo;Nicest Boy&amp;rsquo;&amp;rsquo; of the school from Class VIII. Ajit, who had received a Rs 10,000 cash prize in August said that he utilised the money to pay off his tuition instalments for two months.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ajit&amp;rsquo;s father, Algarshan, a gardener in UT Governor&amp;rsquo;s House said, &amp;ldquo;My son has been studying here since the beginning. I could not believe when my son got admission in such an elite school.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Right to Education Act 2009 mandates that private schools reserve 25 per cent seats for children from EWS. The act is yet to be implemented in full capacity in city schools.

                <br /><div align="justify">The concept of integrating children from less privileged backgrounds with others in &lsquo;elite schools&rsquo;, as per the quota for children from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) may have invited debates in the city, but the execution of the idea in some of the schools has already started showing results.<br /><br />There are some students, admitted under the scheme, who have not only done well for themselves but also set benchmarks for others with their performances in different fields.<br /><br />A group of five such EWS students from St John&rsquo;s School, Sector 26, who constitute the school&rsquo;s gymnastics team, have been winning the gold medal across all UT schools for three consecutive years.<br /><br />Saurav, Marten, Abhishek and Amit from Class VII and Mayank from class VI, apart from realising their potentials in gymnastics, also find their interest in singing, dancing and sports. Like other students in the school, they are confident about their aims in life. While one wants to become a pilot, others aim to be engineers and doctors. Interestingly, one of them wishes to be an English teacher.<br /><br />Speaking to Newsline, Jacinta Kullu, Mayank&rsquo;s mother, who works as a domestic help in Sector 8, narrated her son&rsquo;s achievements.<br /><br />With tears in her eyes, she says, &ldquo;My son&rsquo;s favourite subject is English. He teaches me how to read, write and speak in English after coming back from school everyday. It is difficult for me to follow everything he tells me in English but it feels great to see his confidence.&rdquo;<br /><br />Meanwhile, another EWS student from St John&rsquo;s school, Ajit (now in Class IX), was chosen as the &lsquo;Nicest Boy&rsquo;&rsquo; of the school from Class VIII. Ajit, who had received a Rs 10,000 cash prize in August said that he utilised the money to pay off his tuition instalments for two months.<br /><br />Ajit&rsquo;s father, Algarshan, a gardener in UT Governor&rsquo;s House said, &ldquo;My son has been studying here since the beginning. I could not believe when my son got admission in such an elite school.&rdquo;<br /><br />The Right to Education Act 2009 mandates that private schools reserve 25 per cent seats for children from EWS. The act is yet to be implemented in full capacity in city schools.</div>               </font>

Interestingly, one of them wishes to be an English teacher.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Speaking to Newsline, Jacinta Kullu, Mayank&amp;rsquo;s mother, who works as a domestic help in Sector 8, narrated her son&amp;rsquo;s achievements.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With tears in her eyes, she says, &amp;ldquo;My son&amp;rsquo;s favourite subject is English. He teaches me how to read, write and speak in English after coming back from school everyday. It is difficult for me to follow everything he tells me in English but it feels great to see his confidence.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Meanwhile, another EWS student from St John&amp;rsquo;s school, Ajit (now in Class IX), was chosen as the &amp;lsquo;Nicest Boy&amp;rsquo;&amp;rsquo; of the school from Class VIII. Ajit, who had received a Rs 10,000 cash prize in August said that he utilised the money to pay off his tuition instalments for two months.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ajit&amp;rsquo;s father, Algarshan, a gardener in UT Governor&amp;rsquo;s House said, &amp;ldquo;My son has been studying here since the beginning. RTE pays dividends as EWS children excel in ‘elite schools’ by Ritika Jha

The concept of integrating children from less privileged backgrounds with others in ‘elite schools’, as per the quota for children from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) may have invited debates in the city, but the execution of the idea in some of the schools has already started showing results. There are some students, admitted under the scheme, who have not only done well for themselves but also set benchmarks for others with their performances in different fields. A group of five such EWS students from St John’s School, Sector 26, who constitute the school’s gymnastics team, have been winning the gold medal across all UT schools for three consecutive years. Saurav, Marten, Abhishek and Amit from Class VII and Mayank from class VI, apart from realising their potentials in gymnastics, also find their interest in singing, dancing and sports. Like other students in the school, they are confident about their aims in life. While one wants to become a pilot, others aim to be engineers and doctors. Interestingly, one of them wishes to be an English teacher. Speaking to Newsline, Jacinta Kullu, Mayank’s mother, who works as a domestic help in Sector 8, narrated her son’s achievements. With tears in her eyes, she says, “My son’s favourite subject is English. He teaches me how to read, write and speak in English after coming back from school everyday. It is difficult for me to follow everything he tells me in English but it feels great to see his confidence.” Meanwhile, another EWS student from St John’s school, Ajit (now in Class IX), was chosen as the ‘Nicest Boy’’ of the school from Class VIII. Ajit, who had received a Rs 10,000 cash prize in August said that he utilised the money to pay off his tuition instalments for two months. Ajit’s father, Algarshan, a gardener in UT Governor’s House said, “My son has been studying here since the beginning. I could not believe when my son got admission in such an elite school.” The Right to Education Act 2009 mandates that private schools reserve 25 per cent seats for children from EWS. The act is yet to be implemented in full capacity in city schools.
