                <font ><br /></font><div align="justify"><font >A scam worth about Rs 8.81 crore has been detected in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown at Dumroan in Buxar district. While assistant manager of the godown Umakant Dubey has been suspended by senior area manager of FCI Sandipan Chattopadhyay, an FIR has been lodged with the Dumroan police station in this connection.</font><br /><br /><font >According to Chattopadhyay, the FCI has been running two popular schemes -- Karif Marketing Season (KMS) and Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) -- in the larger interest of farmers. Besides, the FCI has been helping the farmers by way of procurement of crops (wheat and rice) directly from them. However, in the present scam, the vested interests surreptitiously sold the procured crops in the open market valued at Rs 8.81 crore during 2008-2009 procurement year, he said.</font><br /><br /><font >Chattopadhyay, who is the sole in-charge of Bihar, told TOI that the scam came to light when he sought details of the stock from Dumraon FCI godown on October 9 this year. As he was not satisfied with the replies, a team of FCI officials was sent to Dumraon FCI godown recently to make physical verification of the stock. Surprisingly, there was no trace of about 80,000 bags of wheat and rice in the godown. Subsequently, it was learnt that the vested interests had sold these bags of wheat and rice clandestinely in the open market, he said, adding the matter has been reported to the Central Vigilance team of the FCI.</font><br /><br /><font >According to sources, the scam which had surfaced in 2009, was first detected during the tenure of the then area manager, A Thakur. A committee was then set up to probe the matter. Prima facie Dubey was found guilty and thus a suspension order was issued against him. Besides, the FCI has been helping the farmers by way of procurement of crops (wheat and rice) directly from them. However, in the present scam, the vested interests surreptitiously sold the procured crops in the open market valued at Rs 8.81 crore during 2008-2009 procurement year, he said.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;font &gt;Chattopadhyay, who is the sole in-charge of Bihar, told TOI that the scam came to light when he sought details of the stock from Dumraon FCI godown on October 9 this year. As he was not satisfied with the replies, a team of FCI officials was sent to Dumraon FCI godown recently to make physical verification of the stock. Surprisingly, there was no trace of about 80,000 bags of wheat and rice in the godown. Subsequently, it was learnt that the vested interests had sold these bags of wheat and rice clandestinely in the open market, he said, adding the matter has been reported to the Central Vigilance team of the FCI.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;font &gt;According to sources, the scam which had surfaced in 2009, was first detected during the tenure of the then area manager, A Thakur. A committee was then set up to probe the matter. Prima facie Dubey was found guilty and thus a suspension order was issued against him. But, the suspension order was neither executed nor the FCI authorities took any action against the guilty person, sources said, adding Dubey was served suspension order in November this year only.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;font &gt;According to the FCI area manager, the FCI lodged an FIR against Dubey under different sections of IPC with the Dumraon police station on November 16.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;font &gt;The Dumroan police said that the matter is under investigation.
