Doctors should serve in the public sector for at least two to three years before looking for lucrative options and do justice to the profession. There is a need for a change in the attitude among doctors,&quot; he said. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >The `108' facility has changed the face of the emergency response system as well as the mindset of people towards government services and is one of the most successful programmes in the state, the CM lauded. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >The state government along with the Emergency Management Research Institute had launched the `108' ambulance service on August 15, 2005 with 30 ambulances in public private partnership. With the current fleet of 802 ambulances, of which 752 ambulances are on road, Dr P V Ramesh, secretary, health, said the service has handled 44 lakh emergencies so far and saved over 73,000 lives. &quot;About 93 per cent of the state's population have access to `108',&quot; he said, adding that the government has spent Rs 264 crore on the service since its inception and proposes to spend Rs 100 crore this year. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Venkat Changavalli, CEO, GVK EMRI, said that apart from the present nine states, EMRI has signed agreements with two more states and by 2011, it aspires to have a presence in the entire country.<br /></font></p>               </font>

                <p align="justify"><font ></font></p><p align="justify"><font >Despite the presence of an adept emergency ambulance service in the state, patients continue to suffer due to the acute shortage of doctors and paramedical staff, more so in rural areas, chief minister K Rosaiah said on Sunday. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Speaking at a programme on the fifth anniversary of `108' Emergency Response Services in the city, Rosaiah said that even though the state spends Rs 30 lakh on every medical graduate passing out of the government medical colleges, they are unwilling to serve people in rural areas. &quot;I must admit that health sector in rural areas is in shambles. Doctors should serve in the public sector for at least two to three years before looking for lucrative options and do justice to the profession. There is a need for a change in the attitude among doctors,&quot; he said. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >The `108' facility has changed the face of the emergency response system as well as the mindset of people towards government services and is one of the most successful programmes in the state, the CM lauded. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >The state government along with the Emergency Management Research Institute had launched the `108' ambulance service on August 15, 2005 with 30 ambulances in public private partnership. With the current fleet of 802 ambulances, of which 752 ambulances are on road, Dr P V Ramesh, secretary, health, said the service has handled 44 lakh emergencies so far and saved over 73,000 lives. &quot;About 93 per cent of the state's population have access to `108',&quot; he said, adding that the government has spent Rs 264 crore on the service since its inception and proposes to spend Rs 100 crore this year. </font></p><p align="justify"><font >Venkat Changavalli, CEO, GVK EMRI, said that apart from the present nine states, EMRI has signed agreements with two more states and by 2011, it aspires to have a presence in the entire country.<br /></font></p>               </font>
