There are vacancies of specialist doctors at community health centres, because specialist doctors are generally unwilling to join government services as they are required to work in rural or small towns,&amp;quot; it said.&lt;br /&gt;

The affidavit was filed before the division bench of Justice M R Shah and Justice B N Karia.&lt;br /&gt;

It said he government was availing the services of such doctors on a part-time basis.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;quot;Since 2010, the state government has appointed 3,730 doctors, with 1,868 having joined on different terms and conditions, including on contract basis. &lt;em&gt;Ahmedabad: &lt;/em&gt;The state government today told the Gujarat High Court that there was a shortage of specialist doctors at community health centres as they were generally unwilling to work in rural areas and small towns.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In an affidavit filed in response to a PIL seeking the courts direction to the state to provide better diagnosis and treatment facilities to control vector-borne diseases, the government said that it was fully equipped to tackle the swine flu outbreak which has killed over 350 people this year.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;Specialists and expert doctors are hardly available for full-time service. There are vacancies of specialist doctors at community health centres, because specialist doctors are generally unwilling to join government services as they are required to work in rural or small towns,&amp;quot; it said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The affidavit was filed before the division bench of Justice M R Shah and Justice B N Karia.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It said he government was availing the services of such doctors on a part-time basis.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;Since 2010, the state government has appointed 3,730 doctors, with 1,868 having joined on different terms and conditions, including on contract basis. In addition, 680 doctors who have given bond to join rural services (for having studied at government hospitals) have also joined,&amp;quot; it said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The petitioner, in his rejoinder filed during last hearing, had said that 58 per cent posts of specialist doctors and 38 per cent posts of medical officers in state-run hospitals and CHCs were vacant.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The petitioner had also said that there were only nine laboratories in the state to test swine flu cases.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Replying to this, the government today said that it had added three laboratories since 2015, and the capacity to test samples went up to 800 per day from 300 earlier.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;Laboratories for influenza viruses require special provisions...Five private laboratories have also been permitted for testing on no-profit condition,&amp;quot; it said.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The petitioner, Mensavi Thapar, had in his PIL filed through his lawyer, K R Koshty, sought the courts direction to the government to take necessary steps to provide facilities for diagnosis and treatment as well as compensation to victims of vector-borne diseases. &lt;br /&gt;

There are vacancies of specialist doctors at community health centres, because specialist doctors are generally unwilling to join government services as they are required to work in rural or small towns,&quot; it said.<br /><br />The affidavit was filed before the division bench of Justice M R Shah and Justice B N Karia.<br /><br />It said he government was availing the services of such doctors on a part-time basis.<br /><br />&quot;Since 2010, the state government has appointed 3,730 doctors, with 1,868 having joined on different terms and conditions, including on contract basis.
