‘Streamline NREGA implementation’


The Assurance Committee (AC) of Legislative Assembly which met here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, M Y Tarigami has asked the Rural Development Department to further streamline the implementation of MGNREGA in the State.

The Committee observed that with implementation of the scheme in rural areas, particularly neglected areas, can empower their socio- economic status to some extent. The Committee recommended increase in employment days from 100 days to 200 in view of varied nature of  development works.

The Committee also suggested for amendment in present Panchayat Act for better services to the people, an official statement said.

The Committee asked the functionaries to implement the scheme in letter and spirit at gross-root level to benefit the people.

While going through the assurance given by the Government on floor of House in 2008, the Committee dropped three issues after satisfaction.

MLAs, N A Gurezi, Jugal Kishore,   Charanjit Singh and   Durga Dass participated. Besides, Secretary R&B,   Yadullah, Director Rural Development Department Kashmir and Jammu,   M.Y. Zargar and   Jehangir Mir, Special Secretary RDD,   G. R Wani, Additional Secretary,   A.G. Sofi, Member Secretary NREGA, Dr. Syed Hanief Bakshi and other officers of RDD and Assembly Secretariat were present.
