                <div align="justify">-The Tribune</div><p align="justify"><em>Chief Minister pushes for crop diversification, says will provide farmers all help</em></p><p align="justify"><em>Chandigarh: </em>Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the state government would provide 50 per cent subsidy to farmers willing to rear cows for producing organic dairy products, besides setting up a board to sort out issues and requirements pertaining to organic farming.</p><p align="justify">Addressing participants on the concluding day of the National Organic Farming Convention here, Badal said the state would also provide shops or associated accommodation in cities for rural organic farmers to sell their produce. Marketing strategy, he said, was as important as producing food items in order to be successful.</p><p align="justify">The Chief Minister said organic farming was the traditional method of agriculture in India but due to national requirement of high food grain production, the green revolution called for using chemical fertilisers and pesticides.</p><p align="justify">He said diversification of agriculture was need of the hour. Punjab, he said, provided the bulk of foodgrain to the country, but since other states were now largely self-sufficient in foodgrain production, diversification was preferred.</p><p align="justify">Stressing that the farming community needed to be convinced that organic farming could be economically viable and sustainable, bringing in good returns, Badal said every village must have a demo plot that could make farmers aware on the matter. Such schemes could be facilitated through panchayats.</p><p align="justify">Umendra Dutt, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, said the convention had proved that Punjab and Haryana had the potential to reverse the destruction of land, water and biodiversity brought about through intensive farming with large doses of agro-chemicals and mindless irrigation, and to become major players in ecological farming.</p><p align="justify">The scientific conference held as part of the convention, organised by the Society of Agro-Ecology and Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, saw scientists from premiere research institutions and organisations working with farmers as well as farmer-scientists share their latest research and observations on soil health, plant nutrition, plant protection, water management, and Iivestock development with special focus on indigenous cattle breeds.</p>               </font>

                <div align="justify">-The Tribune</div><p align="justify"><em>Chief Minister pushes for crop diversification, says will provide farmers all help</em></p><p align="justify"><em>Chandigarh: </em>Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the state government would provide 50 per cent subsidy to farmers willing to rear cows for producing organic dairy products, besides setting up a board to sort out issues and requirements pertaining to organic farming.</p><p align="justify">Addressing participants on the concluding day of the National Organic Farming Convention here, Badal said the state would also provide shops or associated accommodation in cities for rural organic farmers to sell their produce. Marketing strategy, he said, was as important as producing food items in order to be successful.</p><p align="justify">The Chief Minister said organic farming was the traditional method of agriculture in India but due to national requirement of high food grain production, the green revolution called for using chemical fertilisers and pesticides.</p><p align="justify">He said diversification of agriculture was need of the hour. Punjab, he said, provided the bulk of foodgrain to the country, but since other states were now largely self-sufficient in foodgrain production, diversification was preferred.</p><p align="justify">Stressing that the farming community needed to be convinced that organic farming could be economically viable and sustainable, bringing in good returns, Badal said every village must have a demo plot that could make farmers aware on the matter. Such schemes could be facilitated through panchayats.</p><p align="justify">Umendra Dutt, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, said the convention had proved that Punjab and Haryana had the potential to reverse the destruction of land, water and biodiversity brought about through intensive farming with large doses of agro-chemicals and mindless irrigation, and to become major players in ecological farming.</p><p align="justify">The scientific conference held as part of the convention, organised by the Society of Agro-Ecology and Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, saw scientists from premiere research institutions and organisations working with farmers as well as farmer-scientists share their latest research and observations on soil health, plant nutrition, plant protection, water management, and Iivestock development with special focus on indigenous cattle breeds.</p>               </font>

The Chief Minister said organic farming was the traditional method of agriculture in India but due to national requirement of high food grain production, the green revolution called for using chemical fertilisers and pesticides. He said diversification of agriculture was need of the hour. Punjab, he said, provided the bulk of foodgrain to the country, but since other states were now largely self-sufficient in foodgrain production, diversification was preferred. Stressing that the farming community needed to be convinced that organic farming could be economically viable and sustainable, bringing in good returns, Badal said every village must have a demo plot that could make farmers aware on the matter. Such schemes could be facilitated through panchayats. Umendra Dutt, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, said the convention had proved that Punjab and Haryana had the potential to reverse the destruction of land, water and biodiversity brought about through intensive farming with large doses of agro-chemicals and mindless irrigation, and to become major players in ecological farming. The scientific conference held as part of the convention, organised by the Society of Agro-Ecology and Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, saw scientists from premiere research institutions and organisations working with farmers as well as farmer-scientists share their latest research and observations on soil health, plant nutrition, plant protection, water management, and Iivestock development with special focus on indigenous cattle breeds.
