No industrial activity in the form of mining, quarrying or prospecting can be carried out in any area designated eco-sensitive. Also, felling of trees will be prohibited and is allowed in rare cases, that too with the government&amp;rsquo;s permission.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;ldquo;Any activity that can, directly or indirectly, affect the forests and wildlife in the area will be banned. Even noise and speed limits will be applicable in and around the sanctuary areas,&amp;rdquo; said a state forest department official.&lt;br /&gt;

He said Tata Steel had written a letter to the Union forest and environment minister Jairam Ramesh raising a few objections in connection with the proposal.                 <br /><div align="justify">A senior forest official from the Centre is visiting Jharkhand tomorrow to review a state proposal to declare Dalma forests and its adjoining areas in the Singhbum region an eco-sensitive zone, a move that has been opposed by Tata Steel.<br /><br />In March, the state forest department had drafted an exhaustive plan to create a protective zone around 10km perimeter of the Dalma forests to protect the area that is a natural habitat of elephants and other wild animals.<br /><br />According to the forest department&rsquo;s draft, sent to the Centre for its seal of approval, the proposed eco-sensitive zone would cover 522.98 sqkm of which 377.89 sqkm would be in East Singhbhum and 145.09 sqkm in neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan.<br /><br />No industrial activity in the form of mining, quarrying or prospecting can be carried out in any area designated eco-sensitive. Also, felling of trees will be prohibited and is allowed in rare cases, that too with the government&rsquo;s permission.<br /><br />&ldquo;Any activity that can, directly or indirectly, affect the forests and wildlife in the area will be banned. Even noise and speed limits will be applicable in and around the sanctuary areas,&rdquo; said a state forest department official.<br /><br />He said Tata Steel had written a letter to the Union forest and environment minister Jairam Ramesh raising a few objections in connection with the proposal. And hence, the Centre was despatching inspector-general of (wildlife) of the Union ministry of forest and environment A.K. Srivastava to the state tomorrow.<br /><br />J.B. Jauhar, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), said the state forest department had not received a copy of Tata&rsquo;s letter to the Centre, but came to know about the company&rsquo;s objections from Union ministry officials.<br /><br />&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know the points of objections with our proposed plan as we haven&rsquo;t seen the letter. Also, felling of trees will be prohibited and is allowed in rare cases, that too with the government&rsquo;s permission.<br /><br />&ldquo;Any activity that can, directly or indirectly, affect the forests and wildlife in the area will be banned. Even noise and speed limits will be applicable in and around the sanctuary areas,&rdquo; said a state forest department official.<br /><br />He said Tata Steel had written a letter to the Union forest and environment minister Jairam Ramesh raising a few objections in connection with the proposal.
