According to sources in the government, Chandrasekhar is one of the top three IAS officers who is being considered for this crucial constitutional body. Chaturvedi, a 1977 batch UP cadre officer.&lt;br /&gt;

A CAG's term length is six years or up to 65 years of age (whichever is earlier).<br /><br />According to sources in the government, Chandrasekhar is one of the top three IAS officers who is being considered for this crucial constitutional body. Besides him, the other names doing rounds are defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, a 1976 batch Bihar cadre IAS (to retire in July) and former petroleum secretary, G.C. Chaturvedi, a 1977 batch UP cadre officer.<br /><br />The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India is an authority, established by the Constitution of India, who audits all receipts and expenditure of the Government of India and the state governments, including those of bodies and authorities substantially financed by the government.<br /><br />The CAG enjoys the same status as a judge of Supreme Court of India in Indian order of precedence.<br /><br />Chandrasekhar, who took reins of the telecom department in September 2010, ably handled the portfolio, plagued with alleged 2G swindle.<br /><br />During his stint in DoT, he was at the helm of legal and regulatory affairs. Besides him, the other names doing rounds are defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, a 1976 batch Bihar cadre IAS (to retire in July) and former petroleum secretary, G.C. Chaturvedi, a 1977 batch UP cadre officer. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India is an authority, established by the Constitution of India, who audits all receipts and expenditure of the Government of India and the state governments, including those of bodies and authorities substantially financed by the government. The CAG enjoys the same status as a judge of Supreme Court of India in Indian order of precedence. Chandrasekhar, who took reins of the telecom department in September 2010, ably handled the portfolio, plagued with alleged 2G swindle. During his stint in DoT, he was at the helm of legal and regulatory affairs. Undeterred by criticism, Chandrasekhar, unlike his predecessors, pointed fingers at probable loss to public funds that included pending penalties and levies on private operators. With rich and diverse experience in formulating strategies and policies, Chandrasekhar established the country's first Department of Information Technology (DIT) in Andhra Pradesh and served it from June 1997 to December 1999. Chandrasekhar has been conferred with the Prime Minister Award for Excellence in Public Administration for 2007-08. He received an M Sc. degree in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and is an MS in Computer Science from the Pennsylvania State University, US. Chandrasekhar, however, did not revert to CIOL's query on taking up new role.
