It will be providing a free garden kit to every village home.</p><p><em>Production shortfall</em></p><p>Tamil Nadu has been producing a large quantity of rice (about 70 lakh tonnes a year) and maize (about 26 lakh tonnes), both of which are rich sources of carbohydrates. But, the State&rsquo;s production of pulses, oilseeds, millets, vegetables and fruits is lower than the demand.</p><p>All these food items are rich sources of proteins, vitamins and minerals.</p><p>&ldquo;Tamil Nadu has already achieved self-sufficiency in food production. But we need to achieve nutritional security by boosting the productivity of various other crops.
