Participating in first day of the symposium, noted economist and member, planning commission, Abhijit Sen, however, countered Joshi&amp;rsquo;s suggestion.&lt;br /&gt;

Stating that preparing a perfect method for identifying the poor was not possible. He said, &amp;ldquo;The very notion of poverty will continue to change. A single dimensional approach will be difficult to follow; we will have to depend on multi-dimensional approaches.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;

Sen maintained that social schemes like MGNREGS that give certain rights to the poor can serve as &amp;ldquo;near perfect&amp;rdquo; methods to identify the BPL families. He also stressed the need for a dispute settlement mechanism to rectify errors in identifying the poor.&lt;br /&gt;
