The state reported 15.8% of total crime against children cases last year. UP is also ranked second in crime against women.</p><p align="justify">Madhya Pradesh is a close second with 13.5% of crime against children cases. Delhi, Maharashtra and Bihar are third (11.7%), fourth (9%) and fifth (7.6%) respectively. West Bengal is one of the safest states for children with only 4.5% of total cases against kids.</p><p align="justify">However, in some relief to the police, UP no longer tops the list of major crime prone states. Among the bigger and populous states, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have caught up with UP on the crime front, says NCRB report. &quot;UP has to face some many unique dimensions of crime because of its vast population and area. Still, it has been our endeavor to produce the best results. Madhya Pradesh reported maximum rape cases (3,394), followed by West Bengal (2,040) and UP (1,951). Maharashtra (1,768) and Bihar (922) are fourth and fifth respectively. Surprisingly, Delhi (666 rape cases) is the safest state for women.</p><p align="justify">Delhi recorded the maximum cases (6,659) of violent crime. On the basis of total violent crime per lakh of population, Delhi tops the list with a rate of 34.7 cases. Bihar is second with 30.01 cases per lakh of population in terms of violent crimes which include murder, attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery, dacoity, rioting and dowry deaths.</p><p align="justify">West Bengal, ruled by Mamata Banerjee, is the most unsafe state for women with 12.7% cases of total women related crimes reported in 2012. Calculated on the basis of projected female population of the state, UP is second with 9.6% cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh (6.9%), Maharashtra (6.7%) and Bihar (4.6%).
