There was 52 hectares of barren land near Bhilo ki Basti in Ramsar which villagers usually used as dumping ground to depose off garbage. &amp;quot;There was a water outlet on this land which worked as a channel to Ramsar lake but over a period of time this channel went dry and the land was left barren,&amp;quot; said Ram Singh Rawat of the village.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The district administration initiated the villagers to create a lake on this land it as it was in the lower area and so could collect rainwater from nearby areas during monsoon.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;This barren land was not in use. We took this land to develop a lake and sanctioned Rs 8 lakh for it. Now you can see the results,&amp;quot; said Goyal.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He added that the depth of this lake is five feet and at present has a capacity of 4.08 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). During the first showers the lake received a good amount of water and now underground water is recharging the wells that had dried up this summer.&lt;br /&gt;

The lake will also help to make villagers self-reliant in terms of water and they will be able to fulfil their drinking water needs. &lt;br /&gt;

                <strong>Barren land turns into a lake, Ramsar villagers show the way</strong></h1>

                <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br /><em>AJMER: </em>The residents of Ramsar village toiled hard for five months to prepare the barren land in this village so that they can conserve water. Ramsar region which received eight inches of water in pre-monsoon showers filled this lake.<br /><br />Now, this water is recharging the wells of nearby villages. District collector Gaurav Goyal on Friday went to inspect the work and congratulated the villagers for carrying forwards chief minister's Jal Sawavlamban Abhiyan.<br /><br />There was 52 hectares of barren land near Bhilo ki Basti in Ramsar which villagers usually used as dumping ground to depose off garbage. &quot;There was a water outlet on this land which worked as a channel to Ramsar lake but over a period of time this channel went dry and the land was left barren,&quot; said Ram Singh Rawat of the village.<br /><br />The district administration initiated the villagers to create a lake on this land it as it was in the lower area and so could collect rainwater from nearby areas during monsoon.<br /><br />&quot;This barren land was not in use. We took this land to develop a lake and sanctioned Rs 8 lakh for it. Now you can see the results,&quot; said Goyal.<br /><br />He added that the depth of this lake is five feet and at present has a capacity of 4.08 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). During the first showers the lake received a good amount of water and now underground water is recharging the wells that had dried up this summer.<br /><br />The lake will also help to make villagers self-reliant in terms of water and they will be able to fulfil their drinking water needs. <br /><br />&quot;Initially we thought that the administration wanted us to work under MGNREGA and wanted to pay us. We have nothing to do in summer months and so came out to dig the land. District collector Gaurav Goyal on Friday went to inspect the work and congratulated the villagers for carrying forwards chief minister&#039;s Jal Sawavlamban Abhiyan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There was 52 hectares of barren land near Bhilo ki Basti in Ramsar which villagers usually used as dumping ground to depose off garbage. &amp;quot;There was a water outlet on this land which worked as a channel to Ramsar lake but over a period of time this channel went dry and the land was left barren,&amp;quot; said Ram Singh Rawat of the village.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The district administration initiated the villagers to create a lake on this land it as it was in the lower area and so could collect rainwater from nearby areas during monsoon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;quot;This barren land was not in use. We took this land to develop a lake and sanctioned Rs 8 lakh for it. Now you can see the results,&amp;quot; said Goyal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He added that the depth of this lake is five feet and at present has a capacity of 4.08 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). Ramsar region which received eight inches of water in pre-monsoon showers filled this lake.<br /><br />Now, this water is recharging the wells of nearby villages. District collector Gaurav Goyal on Friday went to inspect the work and congratulated the villagers for carrying forwards chief minister's Jal Sawavlamban Abhiyan.<br /><br />There was 52 hectares of barren land near Bhilo ki Basti in Ramsar which villagers usually used as dumping ground to depose off garbage. &quot;There was a water outlet on this land which worked as a channel to Ramsar lake but over a period of time this channel went dry and the land was left barren,&quot; said Ram Singh Rawat of the village.<br /><br />The district administration initiated the villagers to create a lake on this land it as it was in the lower area and so could collect rainwater from nearby areas during monsoon.<br /><br />&quot;This barren land was not in use. We took this land to develop a lake and sanctioned Rs 8 lakh for it. Now you can see the results,&quot; said Goyal.<br /><br />He added that the depth of this lake is five feet and at present has a capacity of 4.08 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). During the first showers the lake received a good amount of water and now underground water is recharging the wells that had dried up this summer.<br /><br />The lake will also help to make villagers self-reliant in terms of water and they will be able to fulfil their drinking water needs. <br /><br />&quot;Initially we thought that the administration wanted us to work under MGNREGA and wanted to pay us. We have nothing to do in summer months and so came out to dig the land.
