NEW DELHI: Among government schools in Delhi, the performance of the state-run Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas (RPVVs) is better even than that of the Kendriya Vidyalayas run by the central government.

On Friday, Delhi government presented a detailed analysis of the results, showing how the pass percentage of RPVVs increased to 99.9% from 99.79% last year. In comparison, the pass percentage of Kendriya Vidyalayas this year was 99.4%. Admission to classes VI-XII in the 22 RPVVs in the city is through an entrance exam.

Nikita Dahiya, who scored 483 out of 500 marks, was among the government schools toppers in Delhi. The 17-year-old joined RPVV in Class XI. ““The teachers and principal in RPVVs are among the best,” the elated girl said.

The performance of the evening schools, most of them boys’ institutions, was similarly encouraging. At a press conference on Friday, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said, “Due to lack of schools, we run an evening shift in schools, mostly for boys. There is a perception that students of these schools don’t study, but I am glad to say that their pass percentage increased to 89.7% from 83% last year.”

Sisodia attributed the improved performance to factors like training given to the teachers and heads of schools, the four Mega PTMs held every year and regular monitoring of attendance. “We also took 200 answer sheets of low-scoring students and analysed them. We gave the feedback on where the problem lay to the subject teachers,” said Sisodia.

The minister called each topper to congratulate him or her for the achievement despite financial and other odds. “Commerce topper Pooja Singh and her parents have speech and hearing impairment, but did so well,” noted Sisodia.
