Guguloth Shanthamma, from a small hamlet in Mangalavaripet, left her hard-hearted husband behind to start a new life; she now runs an eatery

Warangal (Andhra Pradesh): When life takes a beating, many surrender. But not Guguloth Shanthamma who left behind her hard-hearted husband to start a new life that promises security and happiness.

Hailing from a small hamlet in Mangalavaripet of Khanapur mandal, she rose up to become a successful entrepreneur from a farmer. She moved to Hanamkonda city with her three daughters two years ago and set up a roadside eatery near TTD kalyana mandapam that sells jowar roti.

"I am very happy here than I was in my hamlet because I am on my own," a visibly-elated Shanthamma says.

When she moved to Hanamkonda, she came to know from her relatives that jowar roti was much in demand and so opened a stall that gives her enough to make her ends meet. About 150 customers visit the stall every day, including a few doctors.

According to Shanthamma, she earns Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 a month. She also sells about 10 kg jowar flour and her daughters help her in the task.

"We were fed up of farming back in the hamlet. We have 1.5 acre land that's dependent on rainfall. My husband failed to take care of the family which forced me to take up the responsibility," she explains.

Coming to making jowar rotis, it's more like a child's play for Shanthamma as tribals, particularly Lambadis, are experts in making rotis as it's their staple food. She also found it easy as it was something that was close to her heart.
