Kodenchery Station police are scripting stories of compassion

Kozhikode:
Two underprivileged persons from the Kodenchery station limits will soon have their own house, thanks to the compassion of a group of police officers from the station. Work is on in full swing to complete construction of the houses.

“Malar, a rubber tapper from Tamil Nadu, has been living at Theyyappara under a plastic-thatched roof. The house we completed with the support of sponsors will be handed over to her next week,” says Kodenchery Station House Officer I.C. Chitharanjan.

A new house is getting ready for Hydros too, a native of Muthappanpuzha diagnosed with chronic renal ailment. The first phase of works will be completed shortly at a cost of ?5 lakh. A few local hardware shop owners have also come forward to supply the required construction material.

Acts of charity

Mr. Chitharanjan says the police officers from the station regularly contribute money towards various charitable projects, mainly for the welfare of tribespeople and marginalised sections within the station limits. The initiatives have benefited schoolchildren from various tribal settlements, he adds.

Last week, 96 schoolchildren from Vattachira tribal settlements were given school supplies, including notebooks and instrument boxes. During Vishu this year, the police officers from the station visited a tribal settlement at Pathippara and gifted clothes to around 130 people, including children and adults. They also served a Vishu sadya, making the celebrations memorable for the tribal community.
