'329 Habitations Provided Road Connectivity Under PMGSY'

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government said 329 new habitations have been provided road connectivity in the state under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

"134 schemes, constructing 695 kms road length, covering 329 habitations have been completed under PMGSY till date," Minister for Roads and Buildings and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani said while replying to the discussion on the demand of grants for his department in Legislative Assembly last evening.

He said the first instalment of Rs 223 crore stands released for disbursement of land and forest compensation under PMGSY for which the Union Government has recently sanctioned Rs 710 crore.

With the implementation of this flagship programme, the road connectivity has substantially improved in the rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Wani said.

Listing the achievements registered during the last fiscal, the Minister said an amount of Rs 250.30 crore has been spent under the Roads and Buildings sector.

He said 1,857 kms of new road length would be constructed during the current fiscal, during which widening of Satwari- Kunjwani road project in Jammu with an involvement of Rs 19.49 crore is also expected to be completed.

As many as 13 vital bridges have been completed in the state under the Special Bridges Programme, he said.

The new road projects and bridges have also been submitted for funding to the Union Government under the Central Road Fund to enhance the road connectivity in different identified areas.

The work on Mughal Road Project, with total road length of 84.10 kms and seven vital bridges, has been completed under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan, Wani said.

He added that the construction work on Rs 73.33 crore Bhaderwah-Chamba road is going on in full swing under inter-state connectivity and is expected to be completed by next fiscal.

Giving details of the department's Action Plan, the Minister said the proposal of Rs 25.01 crore for improvement and upgradation of Palli Morh-Narote Jaimal Singh road connecting Pathankot-Amritsar Highway under inter State Connectivity and construction of tunnel on Mughal Road for making it all season road communication have been submitted to Union Government for approval.

Earlier, the Minister moved a demand for grant of Rs 1,816.57 crore to defray the charges which will come in the course of payment during the year ending March 31, 2015 for the departments under his charge.

The members, who moved the Cut Motions on the grants, later withdrew after the satisfactory reply from the Minister.
