Kokrajhar: The Assam government and the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District administration today decided to rehabilitate 12000 refugee families affected in the recent violence.

The 12000 refugee families would be rehabilitated in the first phase while in subsequent phases the remainder of those in relief camps would return home, BTAD chief Hagrama Mohilary told reporters after a meeting with a group of ministers (GOM).

The rehabilitation would be done on the basis of valid land documents while the cases of those who did not have such papers would be discussed later, Mohilary said.

The meeting also discussed peace and confidence building measures.

It was attended by senior minister Prithbi Majhi, heading the GoM, and ministers Pradyut Bordoloi, Rockybul Hussain and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The influential All Bodo Students Union meanwhile submitted a memorandum to Majhi demanding measures to ensure that problems leading to the violence did not recur.

"It is not a Hindu-Muslim or Bodo-Muslim issue. The BTAD should be taken into confidence by the state government to resolve any problem," ABSU president Promod Boro said.
