4 kids die due to malnourishment in Rewa, MPHRC asks for report

Rewa/ Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has taken cognizance of four malnourishment deaths reported over the last three months in Rewa district.

MPHRC has also asked for a detailed report from chief medical and health officer (CMHO), Rewa SK Tripathi on the malnutrition deaths.

Three of the children who died were girls. One of them died just a couple of days back.Deaths of 62 children over five months in Sheopur have prompted the National Human Rights Commission to take suo motu cognizance and issue a notice to the chief secretary.

The Madhya Pradesh high court has also issued a notice to the government over the rising cases of malnutrition among children in the state.

The four children at Dabhaura Basti in Jawa block belonged to Kol tribe and were aged between two months and 1.5 years.

Rewa CMHO SK Tripathi confirmed the deaths on Thursday and said more than 12 more severely malnourished children had been admitted at the Tyonthar hospital and Rewa district hospital.

At least 21 severely malnourished children died in Sheopur district of the state over the last few weeks.

The matter was raised by the former Union minister and Guna MP Jyotriaditya Scindia before Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi, after which the union minister dispatched a team of experts to the malnourishment-hit district recently.
