A total of 40 Adi Dravida beneficiaries at Sengulathupatti in Vedasandur union near here have been searching for their lands allotted to them more than a decade back.

Neither officials in the Revenue Department nor in the Department of Adi Dravida Welfare took any initiative to show the location of land.

Lands offered by the State Government to these villagers are in paper only. In reality, they have been wallowing in a pathetic condition without a proper dwelling.

The district administration had issued pattas to Adi Dravidars offering lands under survey numbers 842/3B and 867/4 at Sengulathupatti village on October 22, 2000. The standing order meant for handing over the land was signed by Special Tahsildar (Palani) K. Palanisamy.

One of the conditions of the standing order was that the beneficiary should construct a building within a year from the date of issue of the order.

They should leave empty field, at least 10 feet, in front of the house and five feet behind it before constructing the building.

“Without knowing the location of our house sites, how can we fulfil the guidelines of the government,” asked P. Vellaisamy, who got plot number 39 under this scheme.

Officials had informed that the lands were divided into 40 plots and each plot was allotted.

But they did not show them the land, he added.

“We were tired of contacting village panchayat and panchayat union officials and appealing to panchayat president and other representatives of local bodies. No one took any effort in showing the land to us,” the beneficiaries deplored. “We have been struggling.”

All the beneficiaries thronged the collectorate on Monday demanding immediate action.

They handed over a petition to District Revenue Officer K. Pechiammal who presided over the grievances day meeting.
