The crime branch on Friday filed a chargesheet against Shailesh Pandya in the murder case of RTI activist Amit Jethava. The 400-page chargesheet revealed that Pandya had earlier made a failed attempt also to kill Jethava.

The chargesheet consists of statements of 151 witnesses. It states that Pandya was given a contract of Rs 11 lakhs to eliminate Jethava by Bahadur Wadher and Shiva Solanki. The duo hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Jethava because the activist was a threat to their mining business.

Jethava was using the RTI route to extract information and then file complaints against them.

The chargesheet revealed that Pandya was wanted in many serious cases and was a sharpshooter. The deal to kill Jethava initially was for Rs 10 lakhs but if he finished the work early, he was to be paid an additional Rs1 lakh. Pandya was helped by one Sanjay Chauhan to identify Jethava .Sanjay also provided all the relevant information to Pandya about Jethava.

The first attempt to eliminate the activist was done when he was returning from his village Dhasa to Ahmedabad. Jethava's bus was followed by Chauhan and Pandya. He then stayed in a hotel, Navrang, where the two kept an eye on him. In between, looking for a chance to shoot him, Pandya prepared himself but they were spotted by a passerby named Vijay Yadav. Because of Yadav, the duo had to abort the mission.

The chargesheet revealed that after the failure of first plan, Chauhan came up with another idea and did a recee of Jethava's regular route and Satyamev complex, the spot of the murder. Accordingly, on July 20, 2010 Jethava was shot dead by Pandya who was accompanied by Chauhan.

After killing Jethava, the duo ran away towards the forest of Gir. Reaching the forest, Pandya called up Pachan Desai alias Shiva demanding money for the murder. Desai, on Pandya's instructions, had first sent a sum of Rs 6 lakh from Jasdan through an angadia firm named M/s Amrut Kantilal angadia, under the fake name of Shailesh Rabari, on July 21.

Moreover, Desai had further sent a sum of Rs1 lakh to Baldev on Pandya's instructions.

The chargesheet further revealed that after receiving the entire amount, Pandya threw away his mobile instrument and SIM card in the Hiran River inside the Gir forest. Later, Pandya was nabbed by the police from Mumbai.
