As many as 9.063 lakh Manav Divas under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) have been created for the job card holders, since April in Dehradun district, said a department officers while talking to The Pioneer on Tuesday.

He said that the department has spent `15.11 crore for providing employment to the job card holders under the MNREGA since April in the district.

While talking to The Pioneer Doiwala Block Development officer Savitri Rawat said that the employment is being created for job card holders in all the Panchayat of the block. She however lamented that the block received 2.12 crore under MNREGS from the department concerned and we have spent `1.98 crore so far, since April.

She further said that we have started conducting social audit in the block from the first week of this month.

“Some of the reports of Social audits reveal that there is need for increasing the Manav Divas and the wages for the job cardholders are two of the issues raised during social audit under MNREGA at the blocks,” she added

According to Job cardholders, the wages under the MNREGA should be increased from `100, as the prices of the food items have increased very high for the last many months.

Dehradun District Development Officer RS Pokhriya said that we have allocated all the remaining funds to the blocks and directed them to create the works for various projects including flood control and protection, drainage in water logged areas, construction and repair of affected, water conservation and water harvesting, digging of new tanks and ponds, small check dams for the registered job cards holder soon in their blocks.

MNREGS is one of the important projects which need to be given special attention towards the execution of the scheme in the district.

It is expected that we will be able to spend the entire allocated funds for Dehradun district under MNREGA before that end of February.

We have directed the Block Development Officers to ensure that `72 lakh would be spent each month in their blocks.

Pokhriya warned the officials that negligence would not be tolerated under any circumstance while providing job to the people under this scheme in the State.
