NEW DELHI: Delhi's air quality on Monday was the best the city has seen in 20 days although it was still in the 'very poor' category. The good news is that the city's air is likely to get slightly cleaner in the next few days, the Central Pollution Control Board said.

The air quality index on Monday had improved to 311, the best since October 26 when the index was at 219. It, however, continued to be in the unhealthy zone. The improvement was mainly because of wind direction changing to northwesterly.

CPCB additional director D Saha weather played a big role in determining the amount of air pollution in the capital.

"Clear sky and wind movement are extremely crucial. The improvement in air quality is a result of change in meteorological conditions. From Sunday, the wind direction changed to north-northwesterly which has improved the mixing height as well. Ground level action initiated by the government and various agencies is also showing result. The only thing left to improve is wind speed and we are expecting that in the coming days," Saha said.
