In a first for the state, newly elected Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has publicly declared his assets worth 4.83 crore, setting the tone for his cabinet colleagues to come out and declare their net worth.

Agency reports said that in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections when Akhilesh Yadav filed his nomination papers for Kannauj parliamentary seat, he had declared movable and immovable assets of more than 5.52 crore.

Yadav uploaded details of his assets on the Uttar Pradesh government website late on Tuesday night, becoming the first CM of the state to do so. His liabilities amount to 15.90 lakhs. He owns a property on the busy Mahatama Gandhi Marg road in Lucknow, valued at 37.55 lakhs, has half the share of property situiated at 1-A Vikramaditya Marg, valued at 41.63 lakh, agricultural land in Etawah ( 17.53 lakh) and a plot at Friends Colony in Etawah, estimated at 2.11 lakh.

He has a Pajero car worth 20.16 lakh. Yadav has made investments worth 1.08 crore in various insurance as well as mutual funds. He has kept cash in hand of 97,923 and his total bank balance is 1.18 crore.

Taking a cue from the chief minister, social welfare minister Narendra Singh Verma also declared his assets.

In his declaration, the minister said he had 20,49,433 in his bank accounts, besides 15 lakh as term deposit, a diesel tanker, gold weighing 10 gms and insurance policies worth over 13 lakh.

The minister also has agriculture land in Sitapur, a residential plot in Lucknow worth over 97 lakh, besides a house worth about 42 lakh. He also declared the assets of his wife and daughter.

The chief minister also promised that his government would provide free medical treatment of serious ailments to poor. Recalling the works of the earlier SP-led government, he said that it took steps for providing better and free treatment for the poor which were discontinued by the Mayawati government.

Referring to the UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Etawah, he said good treatment was provided by the institute to not just the locals but also to those coming from far off places at 35 only.

"Our party has often been criticised for setting up this institute," he said adding that his government would make efforts to provide good treatment at reasonable rates for serious ailments.
