                            <div align="justify">A fact-finding team comprising Rights activists and United Milli Forum (UMF) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of MGNREGA whistle blower Niyamat Ansari and sought immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the victim.<br /><br />Ansari was the sole bread-earner of his family comprising elderly mother, father, wife and three children, a divorced sister along with her daughter and an elder brother all dependent on him. Local Maoist outfit has claimed the responsibility of lynching him.<br /><br />The team of around a dozen people representing Palamau unit of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and UMF went to Jeroa village of Manika block in Latehar district on Sunday and had spoken to family members of the victim, villagers and local administration. The delegation was told that the block was plagued by rampant embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and lack of governance.<br />&nbsp;<br />&quot;Niyamat undoubtedly played a key role in exposing the corrupt BDO Kailash Sahu and panchayat sevak Basudev Nagesia against whom an FIR was lodged in last week of February,&quot; said team leader Shashi Bhushan Pathak.                             <div align="justify">A fact-finding team comprising Rights activists and United Milli Forum (UMF) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of MGNREGA whistle blower Niyamat Ansari and sought immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the victim.<br /><br />Ansari was the sole bread-earner of his family comprising elderly mother, father, wife and three children, a divorced sister along with her daughter and an elder brother all dependent on him. Local Maoist outfit has claimed the responsibility of lynching him.<br /><br />The team of around a dozen people representing Palamau unit of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and UMF went to Jeroa village of Manika block in Latehar district on Sunday and had spoken to family members of the victim, villagers and local administration. The delegation was told that the block was plagued by rampant embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and lack of governance.<br />&nbsp;<br />&quot;Niyamat undoubtedly played a key role in exposing the corrupt BDO Kailash Sahu and panchayat sevak Basudev Nagesia against whom an FIR was lodged in last week of February,&quot; said team leader Shashi Bhushan Pathak. He, however, said the ground reality was even more complex as certain groups were active in the region to instigate villagers for cutting down forest, enticing them for getting land rights from the government under the forest rights act.<br /><br />The team observed that Ansari's associate Bhukhan Singh was given protection by local police after he was also targeted by the Maoists and local goons but long-lasting restoration of peace within the village was of utmost importance. &quot;Unless the government is serious about tightening the noose to expose contractor-administration nexus and bringing relief to workers requiring work in the drought-hit villages of Latehar, the situation will not improve,&quot; Pathak said.<br /><br />Mahtab Alam, Mohammad Parvez and Shams Quamar of UMF demanded compensation for Ansari's family members. <br /></div>

                            <div align="justify">A fact-finding team comprising Rights activists and United Milli Forum (UMF) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of MGNREGA whistle blower Niyamat Ansari and sought immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the victim.<br /><br />Ansari was the sole bread-earner of his family comprising elderly mother, father, wife and three children, a divorced sister along with her daughter and an elder brother all dependent on him. Local Maoist outfit has claimed the responsibility of lynching him.<br /><br />The team of around a dozen people representing Palamau unit of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and UMF went to Jeroa village of Manika block in Latehar district on Sunday and had spoken to family members of the victim, villagers and local administration. The delegation was told that the block was plagued by rampant embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and lack of governance.<br />&nbsp;<br />&quot;Niyamat undoubtedly played a key role in exposing the corrupt BDO Kailash Sahu and panchayat sevak Basudev Nagesia against whom an FIR was lodged in last week of February,&quot; said team leader Shashi Bhushan Pathak. He, however, said the ground reality was even more complex as certain groups were active in the region to instigate villagers for cutting down forest, enticing them for getting land rights from the government under the forest rights act.<br /><br />The team observed that Ansari's associate Bhukhan Singh was given protection by local police after he was also targeted by the Maoists and local goons but long-lasting restoration of peace within the village was of utmost importance. &quot;Unless the government is serious about tightening the noose to expose contractor-administration nexus and bringing relief to workers requiring work in the drought-hit villages of Latehar, the situation will not improve,&quot; Pathak said.<br /><br />Mahtab Alam, Mohammad Parvez and Shams Quamar of UMF demanded compensation for Ansari's family members. <br /></div>

Ansari killing: Judicial probe and compensation demanded by Jaideep Deogharia

A fact-finding team comprising Rights activists and United Milli Forum (UMF) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the killing of MGNREGA whistle blower Niyamat Ansari and sought immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the victim. Ansari was the sole bread-earner of his family comprising elderly mother, father, wife and three children, a divorced sister along with her daughter and an elder brother all dependent on him. Local Maoist outfit has claimed the responsibility of lynching him. The team of around a dozen people representing Palamau unit of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and UMF went to Jeroa village of Manika block in Latehar district on Sunday and had spoken to family members of the victim, villagers and local administration. The delegation was told that the block was plagued by rampant embezzlement of MGNREGA funds and lack of governance.   "Niyamat undoubtedly played a key role in exposing the corrupt BDO Kailash Sahu and panchayat sevak Basudev Nagesia against whom an FIR was lodged in last week of February," said team leader Shashi Bhushan Pathak. He, however, said the ground reality was even more complex as certain groups were active in the region to instigate villagers for cutting down forest, enticing them for getting land rights from the government under the forest rights act. The team observed that Ansari's associate Bhukhan Singh was given protection by local police after he was also targeted by the Maoists and local goons but long-lasting restoration of peace within the village was of utmost importance. "Unless the government is serious about tightening the noose to expose contractor-administration nexus and bringing relief to workers requiring work in the drought-hit villages of Latehar, the situation will not improve," Pathak said. Mahtab Alam, Mohammad Parvez and Shams Quamar of UMF demanded compensation for Ansari's family members.
