The Andhra Pradesh Government has released a social audit primer for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.

Releasing the primer here on Monday, Mr Vatti Vasant Kumar, Minister for Rural Development, said the primer would help the people understand various issues involved in measuring the works and expenditure in the job guarantee scheme.

“It will bring awareness among the members of Gram Sabhas, community and elected representatives on the implementation of the programme.

It will explain various stages in the social audit process. This book will be used in training material for various stakeholders,” he said.

Mr Phani Kumar, Commissioner, Rural Development Department, said that the primer was prepared in such a way that even common people could understand it easily. Prepared in Telugu and English, the 40-page book gave a pictorial depiction of how the scheme worked and how the performances could be measured.

The Minister also released the annual report of AMR-APARD (Alimineti Madhava Reddy Andhra Pradesh Academy of Rural Development) for the year 2009-10.

The academy conducted about 7,000 training programmes in which 6.35 lakh people participated during the year.
