Aruna Roy-led National Campaign for People's Right to Information (NCPRI) has supported the grievance redressal bill with some reservations. In a statement,NCPRI said there were "significant lacuna'' in the bill including the fact that provisions for compensation and penalties had not been specified and the designated authority with the powers of a civil court had not been made sufficiently independent of the government.

NCPRI also expressed concern that Lokpal and Lokayuktas had been made appellate authorities to receive appeals against the decisions of the central and state public grievance redressal commissions.

Team Anna, however, stood its ground and issued a statement criticizing the grievance redressal bill, saying a separate bill was an insult to Parliament and accused the PM for going back on his assurance. Among the objections that the group has is that the bill is too concentrated on the state grievance redressal commission with the 10-member body expected to look into all complaints.

The group said powers should be devolved at the block and district level to allow common man's problems to be addressed at the lowest level. Team Anna has also said that the Lokayukta will not have the power to levy penalty though it was an appellate authority. The government bill is also silent on the selection of the grievance redressal authority.
