NEW DELHI: The Delhi government spent Rs 6.33 lakh on Arvind Kejriwal's oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan while his predecessor Sheila Dikshit's oath ceremony cost Rs 13.04 lakh.

In response to a query by Mumbai-based RTI applicant Anil Galgali, the Delhi government's general administration department said it had spent Rs 6.33 lakh on the Ramlila Maidan ceremony. This, however, does not include expenses by other departments including power, fire department, police and others. This is likely to scale up the spending to a higher amount.

In fact, BJP had alleged that over Rs 50 lakh was spent on the mammoth exercise held on December 28 last year. Aam Aadmi Party had opted for Ramlila Maidan instead of the usual ceremony that takes place in Raj Bhavan with the lieutenant governor administering the oath.

Dikshit's oath-taking ceremony had cost Rs 13.04 lakh, including tent expense of Rs 5.53 lakh and spending on food which amounted to Rs 7.5 lakh.

Galgali had sought information on the total expenditure for the oath ceremony of Kejriwal and Dikshit's cabinet. Delhi government's J P Sharma, deputy secretary of general administrative department, informed Galgali that the department had spent Rs 6,33,802 on the oath ceremony.

The response added that funds were spent by departments like public works department, north Delhi city corporation, Delhi water board, health and family planning department, Delhi fire brigade services, Delhi Police, power department and information and broadcasting department. Galgali said he was still awaiting a response from them.

Galgali said, "Delhi government has denied information on about the total number of peoples gathered in both oath ceremony and also the number of VIP and VVIP with total security strength. They have also denied information on minutes of cabinet meetings held by AAP government and the total numbers of officers who were transferred, suspended and dismissed."

He added that this information should be disclosed online proactively by the government.
