JAIPUR: A local RTI activist has accused the Ashok Gehlot government of favouring a firm in allotting tender for the Kalisindh dam project in Jhalawar district. The activist has demanded a CBI probe into the matter and said that he will also file a public interest litigation in this regard.

Ashok Pathak, the activist, addressing a press conference on Sunday said that the tender issued by the Vasundhara Raje government for Kalisindh dam were initially quashed by the Gehlot government and were modified in a manner that a private firm having less experience could be facilitated to construct the dam.

"I have got the documents to establish that the BJP government floated tenders for Rs 258 crore for this project in 2008, but the Gehlot government scrapped the process and floated fresh tenders with an intention to benefit a particular firm in which Vaibhav Gehlot, son of Ashok Gehlot, works as legal advisor," Pathak added.

He alleged that several conditions were changed and the firm bagged the tender and the bid was as high as Rs 335 crore. The company had no experience of civil work, but the firm was favoured by none other than the chief minister," he alleged.

Accusing the chief minister of misusing his office, Pathak demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

"BJP MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal too had raised the matter and had written it to Central Vigilance Commission. Later, she had also written to Anti Corruption Bureau(ACB) but the ACB without any investigation asked principal secretary, water resources to have independent probe," Pathak added.

"There are several irregularities in the process and a judicial inquiry should be held", he demanded.

When contacted, a government spokesperson said that the state government has already rejected such allegations, which were earlier raised by the Opposition.

"The allegations are baseless and no firm was favoured at the government level," he said.
