The opposition-sponsored Bharat bandh demanding a rollback of the government's decision to hike diesel prices, cap subsidised cooking gas cylinders and allow foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail has evoked mixed response across the nation.

Besides the NDA and the Left, the Thursday shutdown has the support of parties like the Samajwadi Party, the TDP, the BJD and many others.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK, which is an ally of the UPA is also supporting the bandh.

The shutdown has evoked negligible response in the national capital as of now, with no reports of any major disruption to traffic. Most of the schools and colleges in Delhi are open.

However, the protesters have disrupted train movement at several places, especially in the opposition ruled states.

Samajwadi Party workers on Thursday morning blocked rail traffic at Allahabad railway station while the BJP yuva morcha activists stopped trains at the Patna junction.

Bandh supporters of JD(U)and BJP stopped Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express,Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express, Ajmer-Sealdah superfast and Ranchi Intercity at different stations in Jharkhand. They squatted on the rail tracks and stoood in front of the engines.

The Government Railway Police had to intervene at many places to facilitate the movement of trains.

GRP arrested many bandh supporters at Dhanbad, Parasnath and Koderma stations.

The shutdown is near total in the coal belt of Jharkhand. There is no movement of vehicles on Grand Trunk Road.

In Punjab, BJP and SAD workers are out on the streets to enforce the bandh. At many places they have the support of traders.

In Amritsar, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu is leading the protest. The shutdown is almost complete in Patiala.

In Jaipur, several business establishments downed their shutters in support of the bandh call.
