                            <br /><div align="justify">Five years after it came into being, hundreds of NGOs and activists would come together to recount the success and failure of MGNREGA at Udyog Maidan near Statue Circle on Wednesday. <br /><br />The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act had come into effect on February 2, 2006. <br /><br />According to Nikhil Dey of the Suchna Evum Rozgar Ka Adhikar Abhiyan, &quot;These five years have seen not just many people getting employment but also citizens taking on governments on several issues where the Act was not adhered to.&quot; <br /><br />&quot;But, still the fight is on over a number of issues. Besides, the issue of NREGA wages meeting the provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, factors like transparency, social audit and accountability have to be accounted for,&quot; he added. <br /><br />The gathering would discuss success stories along with those where despite efforts a lot remains to be done. Later, a rally would be taken out from the premises. <br /><br />In Rajasthan, MGNREGA has been mired in controversies. First was the historic social audit carried out by the Abhiyan in Bhilwara that opened a can of worms, followed by numerous scams that were unearthed periodically even as special teams from the government started auditing accounts. <br /><br />NGOs and activists staged a 43-day agitation in Jaipur to demand a redressal of several issues that had been plaguing the Act. While many issues were immediately addressed, some are still awaiting a solution.</div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Five years after it came into being, hundreds of NGOs and activists would come together to recount the success and failure of MGNREGA at Udyog Maidan near Statue Circle on Wednesday. <br /><br />The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act had come into effect on February 2, 2006. <br /><br />According to Nikhil Dey of the Suchna Evum Rozgar Ka Adhikar Abhiyan, &quot;These five years have seen not just many people getting employment but also citizens taking on governments on several issues where the Act was not adhered to.&quot; <br /><br />&quot;But, still the fight is on over a number of issues. Besides, the issue of NREGA wages meeting the provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, factors like transparency, social audit and accountability have to be accounted for,&quot; he added. <br /><br />The gathering would discuss success stories along with those where despite efforts a lot remains to be done. Later, a rally would be taken out from the premises. <br /><br />In Rajasthan, MGNREGA has been mired in controversies. First was the historic social audit carried out by the Abhiyan in Bhilwara that opened a can of worms, followed by numerous scams that were unearthed periodically even as special teams from the government started auditing accounts. <br /><br />NGOs and activists staged a 43-day agitation in Jaipur to demand a redressal of several issues that had been plaguing the Act. While many issues were immediately addressed, some are still awaiting a solution.</div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Five years after it came into being, hundreds of NGOs and activists would come together to recount the success and failure of MGNREGA at Udyog Maidan near Statue Circle on Wednesday. <br /><br />The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act had come into effect on February 2, 2006. <br /><br />According to Nikhil Dey of the Suchna Evum Rozgar Ka Adhikar Abhiyan, &quot;These five years have seen not just many people getting employment but also citizens taking on governments on several issues where the Act was not adhered to.&quot; <br /><br />&quot;But, still the fight is on over a number of issues. Besides, the issue of NREGA wages meeting the provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, factors like transparency, social audit and accountability have to be accounted for,&quot; he added. <br /><br />The gathering would discuss success stories along with those where despite efforts a lot remains to be done. Later, a rally would be taken out from the premises. <br /><br />In Rajasthan, MGNREGA has been mired in controversies. First was the historic social audit carried out by the Abhiyan in Bhilwara that opened a can of worms, followed by numerous scams that were unearthed periodically even as special teams from the government started auditing accounts. <br /><br />NGOs and activists staged a 43-day agitation in Jaipur to demand a redressal of several issues that had been plaguing the Act. While many issues were immediately addressed, some are still awaiting a solution.</div>

Caught in controversies, MGNREGA completes five yrs

Five years after it came into being, hundreds of NGOs and activists would come together to recount the success and failure of MGNREGA at Udyog Maidan near Statue Circle on Wednesday. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act had come into effect on February 2, 2006. According to Nikhil Dey of the Suchna Evum Rozgar Ka Adhikar Abhiyan, "These five years have seen not just many people getting employment but also citizens taking on governments on several issues where the Act was not adhered to." "But, still the fight is on over a number of issues. Besides, the issue of NREGA wages meeting the provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, factors like transparency, social audit and accountability have to be accounted for," he added. The gathering would discuss success stories along with those where despite efforts a lot remains to be done. Later, a rally would be taken out from the premises. In Rajasthan, MGNREGA has been mired in controversies. First was the historic social audit carried out by the Abhiyan in Bhilwara that opened a can of worms, followed by numerous scams that were unearthed periodically even as special teams from the government started auditing accounts. NGOs and activists staged a 43-day agitation in Jaipur to demand a redressal of several issues that had been plaguing the Act. While many issues were immediately addressed, some are still awaiting a solution.
