                            <br /><div align="justify">Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Thursday with a list of demands, including an increase in the allocation of wheat and rice for the public distribution system (PDS).<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said though there are an estimated 67 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Madhya Pradesh, the Centre is allotting PDS grains for only 41 lakh families.<br /><br /><em>&ldquo;NDA made a mistake&rdquo;<br /></em><br />He pointed out this to Dr. Singh asking for an early implementation of the Tendulkar report, which had estimated that a larger number of people lived below the poverty line.<br /><br />He alleged that the Centre was doing &ldquo;injustice&rdquo; to the State. But when asked about the BPL estimates in the State during the National Democratic Alliance regime &mdash; he became Chief Minister in 2003 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister &mdash; he admitted that the NDA had made a mistake in pegging the BPL figures at a much lower level than the ground reality.<br /><br />Asked whether the NDA had also done injustice to Madhya Pradesh or was it that poverty had increased dramatically by more than 50 per cent &mdash; from 41 lakh to 67 lakh families &mdash; he said that was not the case. The State had better data now.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said this year the State produced 49.4 lakh tonnes of wheat and he asked the Centre to either lift about 18 lakh tonnes of wheat lying in temporary storage or give the State permission to distribute the same to the poor rather than allowing it to rot.<br /><br /><em>Calls on Ministers<br /></em><br />The Chief Minister called on several Union Ministers, including Vilasrao Deshmukh and C. P. Joshi.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan, who has all along opposed the re-entry of the former Chief Minister Uma Bharti into the BJP, did not meet her during the visit. He said: &ldquo;I respect the party decision, no matter what decision it takes.&rdquo;<br /><br />Asked why Ms. Bharti was allotted Uttar Pradesh as her area of political work, he said his work was limited to the welfare of the people of his State.<br /><br /></div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Thursday with a list of demands, including an increase in the allocation of wheat and rice for the public distribution system (PDS).<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said though there are an estimated 67 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Madhya Pradesh, the Centre is allotting PDS grains for only 41 lakh families.<br /><br /><em>&ldquo;NDA made a mistake&rdquo;<br /></em><br />He pointed out this to Dr. Singh asking for an early implementation of the Tendulkar report, which had estimated that a larger number of people lived below the poverty line.<br /><br />He alleged that the Centre was doing &ldquo;injustice&rdquo; to the State. But when asked about the BPL estimates in the State during the National Democratic Alliance regime &mdash; he became Chief Minister in 2003 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister &mdash; he admitted that the NDA had made a mistake in pegging the BPL figures at a much lower level than the ground reality.<br /><br />Asked whether the NDA had also done injustice to Madhya Pradesh or was it that poverty had increased dramatically by more than 50 per cent &mdash; from 41 lakh to 67 lakh families &mdash; he said that was not the case. The State had better data now.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said this year the State produced 49.4 lakh tonnes of wheat and he asked the Centre to either lift about 18 lakh tonnes of wheat lying in temporary storage or give the State permission to distribute the same to the poor rather than allowing it to rot.<br /><br /><em>Calls on Ministers<br /></em><br />The Chief Minister called on several Union Ministers, including Vilasrao Deshmukh and C. P. Joshi.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan, who has all along opposed the re-entry of the former Chief Minister Uma Bharti into the BJP, did not meet her during the visit. He said: &ldquo;I respect the party decision, no matter what decision it takes.&rdquo;<br /><br />Asked why Ms. Bharti was allotted Uttar Pradesh as her area of political work, he said his work was limited to the welfare of the people of his State.<br /><br /></div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Thursday with a list of demands, including an increase in the allocation of wheat and rice for the public distribution system (PDS).<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said though there are an estimated 67 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Madhya Pradesh, the Centre is allotting PDS grains for only 41 lakh families.<br /><br /><em>&ldquo;NDA made a mistake&rdquo;<br /></em><br />He pointed out this to Dr. Singh asking for an early implementation of the Tendulkar report, which had estimated that a larger number of people lived below the poverty line.<br /><br />He alleged that the Centre was doing &ldquo;injustice&rdquo; to the State. But when asked about the BPL estimates in the State during the National Democratic Alliance regime &mdash; he became Chief Minister in 2003 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister &mdash; he admitted that the NDA had made a mistake in pegging the BPL figures at a much lower level than the ground reality.<br /><br />Asked whether the NDA had also done injustice to Madhya Pradesh or was it that poverty had increased dramatically by more than 50 per cent &mdash; from 41 lakh to 67 lakh families &mdash; he said that was not the case. The State had better data now.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan said this year the State produced 49.4 lakh tonnes of wheat and he asked the Centre to either lift about 18 lakh tonnes of wheat lying in temporary storage or give the State permission to distribute the same to the poor rather than allowing it to rot.<br /><br /><em>Calls on Ministers<br /></em><br />The Chief Minister called on several Union Ministers, including Vilasrao Deshmukh and C. P. Joshi.<br /><br />Mr. Chauhan, who has all along opposed the re-entry of the former Chief Minister Uma Bharti into the BJP, did not meet her during the visit. He said: &ldquo;I respect the party decision, no matter what decision it takes.&rdquo;<br /><br />Asked why Ms. Bharti was allotted Uttar Pradesh as her area of political work, he said his work was limited to the welfare of the people of his State.<br /><br /></div>

Chauhan urges Manmohan to allot more rice, wheat by Neena Vyas

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Thursday with a list of demands, including an increase in the allocation of wheat and rice for the public distribution system (PDS). Mr. Chauhan said though there are an estimated 67 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Madhya Pradesh, the Centre is allotting PDS grains for only 41 lakh families. “NDA made a mistake” He pointed out this to Dr. Singh asking for an early implementation of the Tendulkar report, which had estimated that a larger number of people lived below the poverty line. He alleged that the Centre was doing “injustice” to the State. But when asked about the BPL estimates in the State during the National Democratic Alliance regime — he became Chief Minister in 2003 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister — he admitted that the NDA had made a mistake in pegging the BPL figures at a much lower level than the ground reality. Asked whether the NDA had also done injustice to Madhya Pradesh or was it that poverty had increased dramatically by more than 50 per cent — from 41 lakh to 67 lakh families — he said that was not the case. The State had better data now. Mr. Chauhan said this year the State produced 49.4 lakh tonnes of wheat and he asked the Centre to either lift about 18 lakh tonnes of wheat lying in temporary storage or give the State permission to distribute the same to the poor rather than allowing it to rot. Calls on Ministers The Chief Minister called on several Union Ministers, including Vilasrao Deshmukh and C. P. Joshi. Mr. Chauhan, who has all along opposed the re-entry of the former Chief Minister Uma Bharti into the BJP, did not meet her during the visit. He said: “I respect the party decision, no matter what decision it takes.” Asked why Ms. Bharti was allotted Uttar Pradesh as her area of political work, he said his work was limited to the welfare of the people of his State.
