Chhattisgarh to increase PDS outlets

Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Assembly on Saturday passed budget grant demands of Rs. 2248 crore for food, civil supplies, consumer protection, planning, village industry, economic statistic and twenty points programme implementation department with voice vote.

The Government has announced in Assembly to increase the number of PDS outlets across the State.

Answering a discussion on budget demand proposals for the various departments, Food Minister Punnulal Mohle informed that around Rs. 2099.93 crore has been fixed for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, over Rs. 93.88 crore for Village Industry Department and around Rs. 53.79 crore for Planning, Economic and Statistic Department whereas Rs. 1.46 crore for twenty points programme implementation department.

Mohle further informed the Government was increasing the number of PDS outlets across Chhattisgarh for ensuring smooth distribution of ration to around 59.35 lakh ration card holders under Public Distribution System (PDS).

This year, the Department has started PDS outlets in as many as 1190 new village panchayats following which the number of PDS outlets in the state reached to 12347.

The minister further informed that of total PDS outlets in the state, nearly 9408 outlets have been computerised and soon cent percent computerization target will be accomplished.

For smooth delivery of ration, information of ‘Aadhaar Number’ and bank account have been linked to ration card of around 50 lakh card holders, claimed Mohle.

In public interest, the department is constructing shop-cum- godown in about 192 village panchayats where ration distribution becomes difficult during Monsoon period, informed the minister.

For proper storage of food stuffs, Chhattisgarh State Warehousing Corporation has developed godown with storage capacity of 6.67 lakh tonne and the Corporation is going ahead to construct godown with capacity of 1.42 lakh tonne in financial year 2016-17 for which a budgetary provision of Rs. 40.86 crore has been made, said Mohle.

According to the Minister, the Government has made series of provisions in the budget for ensuring cent percent implementation of the state’s Food Security Act. In kharif marketing year 2015-16, the Government has procured 59.28 lakh tonne paddy from 11.10 lakh farmers and made a payment of Rs. 8429 crore to farmers.

In financial year 2015-16, village industry department has provided employment opportunity to over 2.66 lakh people and fixed a target of ensuring employment to over 3 lakh people in 2016-17, said Mohle.
