                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br />The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to register FIRs in the Coalgate scam on Tuesday morning and conduct raids at the premises of those private players who got coal blocks by misrepresenting facts.<br /><br />Sources said the first set of FIRs into the alleged irregularities in the allocation and utilization of coal deposits may cover eight to ten private companies and are likely to be filed after these are okayed by CBI director A P Singh on his return from abroad on Tuesday morning.<br /><br />Sources said the private companies which are likely to feature in the first set of FIRs were allotted coal blocks in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. CBI officials questioned some officials of these companies on Monday.<br /><br />On Monday, government turned down the demand of BJP, SP and Left for an independent inquiry into Coalgate saying it was not needed when CBI was already probing allegations.<br /><br />Although CBI's interest into alleged corruption in the allocation of coal blocks predates CAG's report on huge undue gains to allottees, its FIRs and raids will ensure that the spotlight remains trained on the mega scam. Sources said apart from officials of private companies who allegedly fudged facts to get hold of coal deposits, CBI has also questioned some officials of coal ministry, especially those who oversaw allocation of deposits between 2006 and 2009, and has collected some evidence from some places there.<br /><br />The agency is also taking into cognizance the Comptroller and Auditor General report which was tabled in Parliament recently, but would, source emphasized, not get into policy issues, restricting itself to alleged instances of criminality.<br /><br />The teams, already stationed in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, are expected to conduct formal raids on Tuesday.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the agency sought more time from Central Vigilance Commission to submit its status report on its probe into alleged irregularities in coal blocks allocation and utilization. CBI, which has registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) after receiving a reference from CVC, could not finalize its report in the three-month timeframe because of 'complex nature' of the case, agency sources said. They said a three-month time limit, which expired on August 31, is a flexible one and they could seek more time from the anti-corruption watchdog.<br /><br />In its request seeking more time, the agency is understood to have intimated CVC about the alleged prima facie irregularities it has found about the beneficiary companies.<br /><br /></div>

                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br />The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to register FIRs in the Coalgate scam on Tuesday morning and conduct raids at the premises of those private players who got coal blocks by misrepresenting facts.<br /><br />Sources said the first set of FIRs into the alleged irregularities in the allocation and utilization of coal deposits may cover eight to ten private companies and are likely to be filed after these are okayed by CBI director A P Singh on his return from abroad on Tuesday morning.<br /><br />Sources said the private companies which are likely to feature in the first set of FIRs were allotted coal blocks in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. CBI officials questioned some officials of these companies on Monday.<br /><br />On Monday, government turned down the demand of BJP, SP and Left for an independent inquiry into Coalgate saying it was not needed when CBI was already probing allegations.<br /><br />Although CBI's interest into alleged corruption in the allocation of coal blocks predates CAG's report on huge undue gains to allottees, its FIRs and raids will ensure that the spotlight remains trained on the mega scam. Sources said apart from officials of private companies who allegedly fudged facts to get hold of coal deposits, CBI has also questioned some officials of coal ministry, especially those who oversaw allocation of deposits between 2006 and 2009, and has collected some evidence from some places there.<br /><br />The agency is also taking into cognizance the Comptroller and Auditor General report which was tabled in Parliament recently, but would, source emphasized, not get into policy issues, restricting itself to alleged instances of criminality.<br /><br />The teams, already stationed in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, are expected to conduct formal raids on Tuesday.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the agency sought more time from Central Vigilance Commission to submit its status report on its probe into alleged irregularities in coal blocks allocation and utilization. CBI, which has registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) after receiving a reference from CVC, could not finalize its report in the three-month timeframe because of 'complex nature' of the case, agency sources said. They said a three-month time limit, which expired on August 31, is a flexible one and they could seek more time from the anti-corruption watchdog.<br /><br />In its request seeking more time, the agency is understood to have intimated CVC about the alleged prima facie irregularities it has found about the beneficiary companies.<br /><br /></div>

                            <div align="justify">-The Times of India<br /><br />The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to register FIRs in the Coalgate scam on Tuesday morning and conduct raids at the premises of those private players who got coal blocks by misrepresenting facts.<br /><br />Sources said the first set of FIRs into the alleged irregularities in the allocation and utilization of coal deposits may cover eight to ten private companies and are likely to be filed after these are okayed by CBI director A P Singh on his return from abroad on Tuesday morning.<br /><br />Sources said the private companies which are likely to feature in the first set of FIRs were allotted coal blocks in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. CBI officials questioned some officials of these companies on Monday.<br /><br />On Monday, government turned down the demand of BJP, SP and Left for an independent inquiry into Coalgate saying it was not needed when CBI was already probing allegations.<br /><br />Although CBI's interest into alleged corruption in the allocation of coal blocks predates CAG's report on huge undue gains to allottees, its FIRs and raids will ensure that the spotlight remains trained on the mega scam. Sources said apart from officials of private companies who allegedly fudged facts to get hold of coal deposits, CBI has also questioned some officials of coal ministry, especially those who oversaw allocation of deposits between 2006 and 2009, and has collected some evidence from some places there.<br /><br />The agency is also taking into cognizance the Comptroller and Auditor General report which was tabled in Parliament recently, but would, source emphasized, not get into policy issues, restricting itself to alleged instances of criminality.<br /><br />The teams, already stationed in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, are expected to conduct formal raids on Tuesday.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the agency sought more time from Central Vigilance Commission to submit its status report on its probe into alleged irregularities in coal blocks allocation and utilization. CBI, which has registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) after receiving a reference from CVC, could not finalize its report in the three-month timeframe because of 'complex nature' of the case, agency sources said. They said a three-month time limit, which expired on August 31, is a flexible one and they could seek more time from the anti-corruption watchdog.<br /><br />In its request seeking more time, the agency is understood to have intimated CVC about the alleged prima facie irregularities it has found about the beneficiary companies.<br /><br /></div>

Coalgate: CBI set to file first set of FIRs, carry out raids today -Neeraj Chauhan

-The Times of India The Central Bureau of Investigation is set to register FIRs in the Coalgate scam on Tuesday morning and conduct raids at the premises of those private players who got coal blocks by misrepresenting facts. Sources said the first set of FIRs into the alleged irregularities in the allocation and utilization of coal deposits may cover eight to ten private companies and are likely to be filed after these are okayed by CBI director A P Singh on his return from abroad on Tuesday morning. Sources said the private companies which are likely to feature in the first set of FIRs were allotted coal blocks in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. CBI officials questioned some officials of these companies on Monday. On Monday, government turned down the demand of BJP, SP and Left for an independent inquiry into Coalgate saying it was not needed when CBI was already probing allegations. Although CBI's interest into alleged corruption in the allocation of coal blocks predates CAG's report on huge undue gains to allottees, its FIRs and raids will ensure that the spotlight remains trained on the mega scam. Sources said apart from officials of private companies who allegedly fudged facts to get hold of coal deposits, CBI has also questioned some officials of coal ministry, especially those who oversaw allocation of deposits between 2006 and 2009, and has collected some evidence from some places there. The agency is also taking into cognizance the Comptroller and Auditor General report which was tabled in Parliament recently, but would, source emphasized, not get into policy issues, restricting itself to alleged instances of criminality. The teams, already stationed in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, are expected to conduct formal raids on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the agency sought more time from Central Vigilance Commission to submit its status report on its probe into alleged irregularities in coal blocks allocation and utilization. CBI, which has registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) after receiving a reference from CVC, could not finalize its report in the three-month timeframe because of 'complex nature' of the case, agency sources said. They said a three-month time limit, which expired on August 31, is a flexible one and they could seek more time from the anti-corruption watchdog. In its request seeking more time, the agency is understood to have intimated CVC about the alleged prima facie irregularities it has found about the beneficiary companies.
