Hyderabad: Union Ministry of Women and Child Development today announced setting up of dedicated centres catering to women victims of violence across 100 districts in the country.

"The 'One Stop Crisis Centre for Women' (OSCCW), aimed at helping the women victims of domestic and other forms of violence, to be located at hospitals, will have a senior doctor as coordinator and comprise a counsellor, police officer, lawyer, on-duty doctor and support staff like nurses, helpers", Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath told reporters here.

The OSCCWs will be made operational from the next financial year, she said.

Replying to a query, Tirath said the anti-rape ordinance, recently given assent by President Pranab Mukherjee, incorporates major suggestions made by Justice Verma panel, and will be discussed in the Budget session of Parliament.

Tirath was speaking on the sidelines of a regional consultation on National Plan of Action for improving Child Sex Ratio.

"The ministry is also in the process of initiating a mass movement through 'ahimsa (non-violence) messengers to spread awareness against domestic violence, dowry, female foeticide, child marriage, trafficking of women and girls", Tirath said.

The "Ahimsa Messengers" would be anganwadi workers, Panchayat Raj members among others, she added.

The Women and Child Development Ministry is also working on a scheme, named 'SAKSHAM', to work for gender sensitisation of adolescent boys, Tirath said.

The National Action Plan for prevention of child marriage is also in progress, she said.

The WCD Ministry has also constituted a High Level Committee to holistically look into various issues concerning women.

The Union Minister hoped that the consultation would contribute substantially towards drafting the National Plan of Action for improving Child Sex Ratio in the country.

Expressing concern over the declining child sex ratio, Prime Minister had written to the state chief ministers for strengthening of the PC and PNDT Act, she said.

Her ministry has taken the lead in formulating a National Plan of Action for improving child sex ratio, she added.

The one-day consultation meeting was attended by Andhra Pradesh Women Development and Child Welfare Minister, Sunita Laxma Reddy, government officials, NGOs and other stakeholders.

The Child Sex Ratio is constantly declining since 1961 -- from 927 in 2001 to 914 in 2011, K Ratnaprabha, a senior official of the Union WCD Ministry, said.
