R V Raju, a retired IPS officer and former director general of National Investigation Agency, has been appointed on an advisory board of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to monitor and assist CBI in cases of commercial fraud and banking irregularities.

Raju was appointed on the CVC board along with R Ramachandran, a former CMD of Andhra Bank. With the induction of two new members, the CVC has reconstituted its advisory board on banks and commercial frauds. The new members have been appointed for a two-year term till March 2014.

The advisory board was reconstituted by replacing two members - Balwinder Singh, a retired IPS officer, and A S Bhattacharya, ex-CMD of Bank of Maharashtra- as their appointment was found faulty by the commission. Other members on the board include retired IAS officer Vivek Mehrotra, ex-executive director of Corporation Bank Asit Pal and chartered accountant T N Manoharan.

The board will be under the chairmanship of former deputy governor of RBI Shyamala Gopinath. The CVC had in March announced formation of the six-member board. The board will form part of the organizational infrastructure of the CBI and the RBI, providing required investigative and secretarial services.
